I think it's a great opportunity - I work in IT at UP - great benefits, good pay (for Omaha), railroad retirement + pension + 401(k). If you work on the lines, you get even better healthcare and a more generous pension, and if you work some OT, can make $80K - $100K a year.
Not much in the private sector beats it, IMO.
