Old spoon value

I am thinking about letting go of a couple of old spoons I have and I don't have a good idea of what they are worth. I was hopping that some here might be able to give me a range as to what the value of these might be.

I have a Model 62a pump 22 that is in very good shape. I also have a model 1873 Winchester that I believe is a 32 cal, and a Remington double barrel .

Same here, the lever action looks very nice, but then the .22 does as well.

The lever action has been "branded" at some point with 29 CP. I don't have any idea why.


And the dust cover is missing. Other than that it seams to be a good honest old gun. No refinishing.

If someone really wanted it to be mint they could swap out the stock, or personally I would leave it as is and try to find out what this means. Would bet it has an interesting background to it.

The remington SXS is an 1882.

Need serial number ranges such as 123XXX. Ifn you don't want to divluge the whole number.
Better pictures of the receivers etc. Need to know when they were made by serial numbers.

You have the makins of a nice collection there. They appear to be honest guns. They will certainily hold value and appreciate. Howver they are not in top collector condition from what I can see and as such are to be priced in the range that their condition warrants.

Missing the dust cover is a big draw back but not insurmountable, price would have to reflect that missing part and cost of replacement. The numbers indicate that the Winchester 73 belonged to a company or perhaps a ranch. If you could ttie that spoon to a Texas ranch then you have perhaps added value there. So I wold need a little history of how and where you came by them it would help. The SN nymber would tie it to an era?

Off hand I am thinking in the $3000 range for the 3....700 to 900 for the 62, 1000 to 1500 for the 73 and around 800 for the Remington? If you could tie those numbers to an organization that had some historic relvance well then the 73 might go for more?

If they came down through the family I think you should keep them. I would consider them to be a bank account, as they can be sold off at anytime you desire, the value is not going to go away as the they are desirable pieces (the Rem shotgun has so so desirability).

is that a dent in the barrel of that sxs? is there any color left on the action? Are the barrels twist, croleil damascus or fluid steel?

NYET to swaping out the stocks...For one thing you don't have a mint piece, second the rifle would not be honest anymore. Third you would have altered the history and the sum of the pieces would not add up..which a knowledgeable collector would spot and that guy would knock the price and that is the guy would would be willing to pay the freight.

Also don't shine them up, they are honest and fine just the way they are. To shine them up well you actually will lose value. Just oil em and clean the gunk/dirt off if need be as you would any spoon after a days use.

A 100 plus years of patina is desirable..

Could you give any more details re the 62? I've got a 61 & a 63, might be a good idea to get the one in the middle.

The 62 is in very good shape, it is my son's and it has been sitting in the closet for 10 yrs. His wife dosn't want it in her house. He only ran around 20 rounds thru it. It is not mint, but it is very good, some blueing is gone on the slide. Serial # is 331748

The serial # on the 73 is 440994B. I had to get out a magnifying glass and the last digit is definatly a B.

I have no history on the 73. I had a boat for sale and my dad wanted it. He gave me the 73 instead of cash. I really wanted cash, but my choice was the gun or dad was going to take the boat anyway. That was about 15 yrs ago. My dad use to collect the old Winchesters and this was just an extra he picked up somewhere.

Tabs, what exactly do you mean by "don't shine them up"? isn't "oil'em and clean the dirt/gunk off " about the same thing.

There are several winchester experts on the ask the experts forum at forums.gunbroker.com - I'd get with them on the value on the 1873, you should be able to find closed auction prices for the 62a, not sure on the remington sxs

The low priced doubles market sucks right now. But it IS a remington.

Wipe them down with gun oil , clean off the dirt and grease in the corners, clean & scrub the bore with a brush and cleaning patches.

But do NOT take off any of the Brown colour or sand and varnish the stocks. That brown colour is called patina and took a 100 years of use to put on there. Collectors like it that way...it shows the use and history of the spoon.

The 73 is 1891...

The 62 is 1954..

Here are some pics of the receivers. On the 62 the only wear is where the action slides. Would this be considered 98%, 95%, 90%? The 73 is missing the dust cap and a screw.
