Snow removal by Stupid People

Audio is NSFW.

Yeah, the commentator of the video pretty well sums it up.

Normal behaviour

NY's 'strongest' reminding me why I never park my car on the street.

Another reason I'm very glad I live far, far away from any sort of urban environment - and take the train to get into work rather than driving.

Far too many idiots out there. Higher population density = higher likelihood of encountering one at any given time.

If you think that's limited to urban environments, you'd be mistaken.

Friend of mine lives in farmland, Southwestern Ontario, just outside of London.

About 2 to 3 times per year, the grater would come down the concession road and clear the snow and take out his mailbox in the process. Even though the mailbox was set well back from the road. It was clearly an incompetent operator, or intentional.

My friend, who's a shop foreman at a cement plant, didn't take too kindly to this, so one summer rebuilt his mailbox, with a 12' piece of 6x6 stainless square tube he obtained from the plant as the post. Said post was burried about 8 feet into the ground, and reinforced with concrete.

4am one morning, he hears a God-awful noise, and sees the grater sideways in the road, with a cracked plough. It had to be towed away, and I guess the operator suffered some minor injuries due to being thrown around during the impact.

I bet it was funny as hell, but got pretty serious pretty quickly when the county tried to lay charges, and sent him a repair bill for the grater and the operator.

Took a couple of months, but I guess things got sorted out. He didn't have to pay anything, but he did have to remove the post.

Still... he says he hasn't lost a mailbox since.

Back in around 86' I was buying very cherry numbers matching 69 AMX with Go Package.

Day or so before the deal was to conclude the owner left it on the street overnight and a snow plow totaled it.

Yeah. I was being careful to avoid my car with the snowplow on the back of my tractor and while I was watching the car I hit my truck with the bucket on the front of the tractor - and I live in the sticks.

The biggest bit of damage my dad suffered to his car due to snow removal was self-inflicted while the car was in the garage.

He was backing the big, fancy, super-duper, "look it has reverse" snow blower into it's parking space beside the car, and drove the snow blower's handle right through the car's taillight.

$360 to fix it.

Yep... my bad.

Grader it is.

I spent an hour making lasagna just before I posted that... that's the only defence I can think of.

But it would have been more impressive if it actually was a grater, truth be told.
