One Day Old Tabs Was Out.....
Lookin at an auction when he ran across this..
. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now let me tell ya a story about a man named TABS..one day he was lookin through some auctions when he came across some rifles by the same spoon maker as this one here. He contacted the auction company and was told that this maker was trained by one of the last of the old timey rifle makers in the hills of Tennessee. Matter of fact in ole Ned Roberts book there is just bout a whole chapter devoted to this last of the old timey makers..man even made his own barrels..and is described in detail how he done it the old fashioned way. Well before that auction went off Tabs found this here spoon in another auction. So Tabs done had a choice...Tabs done decided to go for this one rather than the other ones in the other auction. Can tell you he was frettin bout it for near a month. Tabs was afearin that this one would jump the moon on him, while he was chasin it. Now it ran ole Tabs a bit more than he liked but not so much as he was a think it could run him. An this is sure a purtier spoon then them others to. So Tabs knew this spoon had connection back to the old timey rifle makers of Tennessee which done makes it kind O special..but what Tabs didn't know till after he got ahold of it was that the man whose estate this spoon came also has ties back to the Kentuck hills. Either the man who commissioned this spoons Daddy or Grandpappy was one of the first reenactors of the Primitive Movement back right around 1920. He is even featured in a book that is considered to be a clasic on the subject of Kentuck spoons. So one might say that the owners Pappy or Gran pappy was possibly one of the founders of the NMLRA back in 31. So what Tabs has got to get a letter of Provence from the auction company tellin him whose estate this come from, and contact the maker of this rifle who is in his 80's an git some kind of letter from him describin who he made it for and who trained him to make these spoons. Then we got sumthin...that is just as good as Texasss Tea.... BTW U can't have this made for what Tabs done paid for it... tis spoon is 50 cal, b is 40" and is 56 inches long...jis right...and was made probably in the 70's or 80's...

Tabs...I am always intrigued by your findings. Would you mind sharing some of the spoon auctions that you follow?
Thanks, JA
