NAMM at Anaheim CC Jan 13-16

On the LA snow thread, Rick Lee mentioned that he would be attending at least part of NAMM (Pro industry/musicians show). He raised the question of a possible gathering. The show is at the Anaheim Convention Center across from Disneyland.

I will be there to help with our exhibits (Hall A Booth 6998 - Focal & Lauten & Hall E 1025 - Vovox). I will probably hang at the E booth since we are running short-staffed due to back-to-back shows.

I realize that LA is rather large & Anaheim is sort of the pimple on the butt of LA but will anybody else be in attendance or local enough for a drink and/or some eats?

I leave for Vegas tomorrow for Show #1 - CES - but will check the thread for developments.

Ian

I wish I could be there for the NAMM show and meet you guys! I used to do IT consulting for the NAMM when Larry Linkin ran it. When the current guy took over, he got rid of all the people that I knew at the NAMM. Was a fun ride while it lasted!

There are many who feel that LA is the pimple on all of Southern California.
Anaheim isn't the garden spot of Orange County but it compares favorably with most of LA's "cities".

I was told by my contact at NAMM that I was on the list, but I have not gotten my badge confirmation yet and he hasn't returned a call or email in a while. I hope I can still get in. The buddy I'm staying with writes for a major newspaper, so he'll have no problem getting a press pass. I'm relying on personal connection here and ain't feeling the love anymore.

I went to NAMM for about 15 years straight, but my pass connection dried up. They also now check IDs, so you can't just borrow someone else's pass. I plan to head down there one of the evenings to hook up with a few bass players I know from online. There are plenty of restaurants/bars reasonably close, though NAMM is pretty huge/busy.

I don't have our exhibitor login for NAM. I will try to get it tomorrow & see if I can get some free passes. I am sure that we didn't use our allotment. It looks like they are asking that freebies come on Sunday to ease congestion but last day is always lame at shows.

Ian - PM'd you. For those in town, nostatic trio + is playing Sonny McLean's in Santa Monica on Friday night (14th). Will have the usual royal sampler of players and maybe some t-shirt giveaways. A bit of a drive from Anaheim to Santa Monica, but no cover and 28 different beers on tap

Dammit. I'm spending Friday night in Irvine and just got a late afternoon meeting there too. I really want to hit Cars & Coffee on Sat. morning before heading up to Anaheim.

Oh man you guys are killing me! I went one year while I was working for Mojo Music, waaaay back in the day. Now that I live in LA it seems harder to find a way to get back in, even though a buddy works for a certain power conditioner company (no love or passes either)!

Btw- if any of you guys get a chance, check out Nostatic's band, I took the wife last year when he played somewhere close to Hollywood? (can't remember the name of the place) and we had a great time. Didn't get a chance to say hello to Todd but we really enjoyed the music, (sax player was great and the bass player wasn't to bad either

Anyway, hope you guys have a blast!

Cheers,
Jason

Jason - sorry I missed you at the gig. Which band (I lose track )? I assume IDC (funk band) and probably was at Molly Malone's on Fairfax. I'm actually playing there again this Friday with Steely Jam.

Ugh. For the third year in a row, I won't be attending. Business has been down enough last year that I couldn't afford to renew the membership...let alone make the drive, rent a hotel, etc...
Not going is not doing the business any good, that's for sure.

Nostatic, just post your gig schedule here whenever it changes. I'll be in LA next week, Wed. and Thurs. (Jan. 12-13) nights, Irvine Fri. and Sat., back in LA Sunday night and then ride to Vegas Monday afternoon. I'll be there for work and then hit the SHOT show the following Friday.

Wish I could help you out, but am staying with a buddy in Irvine. I'm only going for fun, not for business, so I can't expense a hotel.

I did find a place I could stay - A luthier down there I make pickups for lives about seven minuets away from the convention center....but the badge/memership, transportation, and food for three people becomes an issue. I was looking forward to bringing my girlfriend and her kid down...not gunna happen this year.

Our Pro business more than doubled last year + we have new lines so we are promoting heavily. I worked 4 Pro + 2 CE shows in 2010. This is our 1st NAMM in 3 years so it should be fun - as fun as a show can be. They lost their appeal for me around the time I lost count of the number I worked. Now its about the people. And the booze. And the food.

This will be my 30th year in Consumer Electronics.

Ian
