Florida.

Name the capital of the 57th state?

Porsche-O-Phile 01-04-2011 11:45 PM

Austin?

I believe this might be a reference to a little-known provision of the Texas state Constitution that allows it to divide itself into up to seven independent states at any time (forget where I remember reading about that offhand...)

It has more trees and less timber
More lakes and less water
You can see farther and see less

What State were they speaking of?

I'm wondering if it isn't Hawaii (haven't Googled it) - total coastline of all the islands?

Put me down for Alaska for having the most coastline.

Bobbi66 01-05-2011 07:46 AM

Hands down Alaska...SmileWavy

drcoastline 01-05-2011 08:47 AM

The coastline of the rest of the contry combined may not equal the coastline of Alaska.

They were talking about Texas . I love that quote !

just found the whole quote it's even better

The late Senator Ben (Pitchfork) Tillman of South Carolina is credited with having said:
“Texas has more trees and less timber; more rivers and less water; more resources and less cash; more itinerant preachers and less religion; more cows and less milk, and you can see farther and see less than any d----- country in the world.”

RWebb 01-05-2011 01:15 PM

I believe Washington does, because if you have beach property, you own the beach, not the state to the high tide line..
