Guess that State - new game

I'll start:

The fourth largest city in this state still has fewer than 20,000 people in it.

What state is it?

pavulon 01-04-2011 04:02 PM

North Dakota?

pwd72s 01-04-2011 04:03 PM

Montana?

Alaska?

audiman08 01-04-2011 04:05 PM

Alaska...right? Sitka used to be the fourth largest city there, but only has about 8k people.

RWebb 01-04-2011 04:13 PM

nope - more cues...

it is high, dry & lonesome

it is not the "last best place" but its denizens were a bit ticked off that another state got that moniker

TechnoViking 01-04-2011 04:23 PM

Wyoming

Which has the largest county in terms of sq. miles

RWebb 01-04-2011 04:57 PM

I think Alaska has counties now, so...

Alaska? Alaska will now be my answer for all of these.

Paul K 01-04-2011 05:27 PM

Harney County in Oregon. Also the least populated!

Hugh R 01-04-2011 05:32 PM

Trick question, sort of. I believe it's the City and County of Honolulu; it goes to Guam. Largest in the continental US? San Bernardino County, CA

Yup

6 largest counties in the US

1 Unorganized Borough, Alaska 330,074.96 square miles
2 North Slope Borough, Alaska 88,817.12 square miles
3 Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska 35,898.34 square miles
4 Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska 24,681.54 square miles
5 Lake and Peninsula Borough, Alaska 23,781.96 square miles
6 San Bernardino County, California 20,105.50 square miles

Paul K 01-04-2011 05:41 PM

I was wrong. The largest Oregon county by size is Harney County, which is 10,135 square miles. Not the US.

D'oh!

Hugh R 01-04-2011 05:44 PM

Oops! But that's why the title of the thread begins with "Guess", not "Google this".

varmint 01-04-2011 05:46 PM

It's Alaska - because some of it's islands cross over the 180 degree meridian and are therefore in the eastern hemisphere - which is one of the reasons the international date line zig - zag's around the islands.

It's also the most westerly and northerly (obvious).

Hawaii is the most southerly.

BeyGon 01-04-2011 07:50 PM

Alaska, the winner from down under
