The Garage Journal is an amazing place...I joined when I reworked one of my barns into a shop. Very smart folks in all aspects of garage gouge.

So much to lust over. Right now my primary motivation towards finishing the basement in my house.....the garage is next!

yep

30" simpson strongtie strap and screws into 11 sets of rafters comes out to about 100#/rafter pair. They are not deck screws. Technically simpson doesn't list specs for its screws being used like this but says it's trying to construct a chart . Text says to use nails. For instance deck screws is the worst thing to use.

each rafter set peak will receive a 36" 2x6 joist on opposite sides of the hoist header and on top of the header will receive a 30" simpson strap all attached by 1/4" x 3" simpson screws for overkill. A 150 screw box is expensive.

it's not code and can be turned into a coat rack. Around here if it's not nailed it can be considered temporary. The hoist itself is designed to not be able to lift more that 125% of its rating or it goes kaput. There are better commercial hoists around but i wanted the flash due to helping maintain the house's flash value.
