Las Vegas stuff not to be missed?

Family going to Vegas mid March. Will be there for a Tastee Freez convention, staying at the Monte Carlo Resort.

What should I do while we are there?

The car museum in the Imperial Palace is full of very rare stuff. Most of it is also for sale so it you hit it big you can buy something cool to drive home in.

The exit!

And the buffet at the Belaggio, right before they switch to Dinner prices.

My family and I were there in July and had a great time. The kids tell everyone they had the most fun running and climbing around the rocks at Red Rock Canyon. It is a nice loop drive with many locations to get out and hike, climb, photo. Hoover Dam is a must. Stratosphere rides. The kids got really tired of walking through all the Casino's so I would suggest maybe spreading the walk throughs out over a few days or picking the important ones if time is not on your side. Eat, drink and gamble.

Hoover Dam is the biggest must and Red Rock canyon was also nice.

Belaggio fountain show.

Rio world buffet.

Sit at Belaggio sports book and drink for free while watching the game.

If you want to gamble cheap sign up for the slot card at most casinos. Many will give you $10 in free slot play. My dad and I did this and it worked out great. We would walk the strip and stop at each casino. We'd sign up for the slot club, gamble with their money until the original $10 had been played then cash out what was left. We'd use that and the coupon book most casinos had to eat or ride some stuff. It made for a cheap trip and allowed us to see all the stuff.

If you go to Hoover Dam on a weekend or holiday, you can expect to sit in traffic for hours. I couldn't even reach the Hoover Dam Bypass after Thanksgiving. Traffic was backed up well past Boulder City. I took the hazmat route through Laughlin.

Go see Valley of Fire, the best kept secret in the area. Try not to drive anywhere on the Strip. It's a huge PITA, especially at night.

I am traveling with my wife 3YO son and my mother in law.

I do not like to gamble and the noise around the casinos is probably not going to work with our son(he wears hearing aids).

We will be in town from Sat. through Wed. or Thurs. My wife wants to see the Grand Canyon. How far a drive is that?

Buffet at the Bellagio is the best. If you go around 4 PM (IIRC) you can get the dinner buffet for the lunch price. It really is good. Also, up the strip a few miles from the old strip is The Nugget, Tabs and I went there, its the best primerib at the best price. Desserts are great.

Grand Canyon is FAR from Vegas. Closest point is probably that Sky Walk on the Hualapai Reservation, but they charge and arm and a leg. Zion is two hours away and also very worth a trip. If you go to the GC, try to get to the North Rim. Probably lots of snow there now, since it's at about 9800 ft.

How much snow are we talking about in mid march?

I really do not want to drive 3 hours each way to look at a ditch.

Vegas

I'm too don't like to gamble,
Definitely second the Hoover Dam, do the tour!
also, if the budget warrants, the grand canyon via helicopter is in my top 5 things ever, my wife was so so so nervous before, but loved every minute of it!
We did Blueman and O but some less well known shows during the day which were a hoot! (Dirk Arthur, my kids will remember forever)
Have fun!

Jeff
