Mt girlfriend must think I'm stupid

Stopped by the same thrift store today playing around with that 1860's Steinway Square Grand piano. Checking the S/N and such. After I was done, an older lady struck up a conversation with me. Turn out, she's got this old organ she bought for $10 at a yard sale from a convent many years ago.
I asked her what kind it was. She replied it was a Hammond, but didn't know what model. She also mentioned she wanted to get rid of it and get a piano instead.
I gave her my number and asked her to call me so I could take a look at it. She said she didn't want a whole lot for it, since it's "so old"
I'm hoping it's a B3, of course. Heck, I'd offer her a grand for it and run like my nuts were on fire!

So I mentioned to my GF about it and being able to turn it around quickly... and she flipped her lid about wasting money.
Uhh.. what? :eek::rolleyes:

Girl does not seems to understand "investment" and "make a profit" or "things that hold high value"
Yep, I tried to tell her it was "THE" organ to have if it turned out to be a B3 and someone would snatch it up even at 10k

I'd keep it if it was a B3.

I've always wanted a Hammond B3.

And a Fender Rhodes to throw on top.

flatbutt 01-05-2011 05:55 PM

if its a B3? yeah run like mad!

You never know until you look. Just a recommendation, if it's ANYTHING else, leave it there.

I stumbled upon an old Kramer Pacer with the maple neck (pre-hockeystick headstock), Floyd Rose and EMG's at a Guitar Center for $200 about 10 yrs. ago. I didn't even play it, grabbed it and took it to the register to pay. I parted it out and tripled my money on eBay.

Some dumba$$ bought a Hammond organ with ONE KEY, how gullible

:D

In any other circumstances, so would I. however, I'd need to sell to raise some funds for tooling... which will save me a load of $$ on some of my parts even with the first order, tooling costs included.

NICE!
I posed a theoretical question to her a few minutes ago. Asked her.. if I had only $10,000 left, and found a 1959 Les Paul for $10,000, should I buy it, knowing it was my last $10,000 and what I could do with it?
She said no...

She's still tweaked about the '67 Fender Bassman I picked up over the summer. For $125.

most girls i know tend to be myopic when it comes to money stuff like that. my ex was that way until i showed her an envelope with over 30K in cash that i made off of a 5K investment. ('73 911s that i flipped)...then i couldnt keep her away from looking "for old cars to make money on"

A little bit of advice you probably don't want. If she's a GF and *****ing about YOU spending YOUR money on anything, run.

BlueSkyJaunte 01-05-2011 07:43 PM

+ eleventy billion.

If its from a church I doubt its a B3 but you never know. In my experiance most churches seem to X-100 Hammonds. - I used to have an M3 which is like a mini B3, kinda.

notmytarga 01-05-2011 09:30 PM

Keep looking until you find the Leslie speaker and cabinet - you kind of need that to make the B3 a B3. I always get excited when I spot one on stage before a concert starts.

which is it, cause she's not gonna be good at both:)

DanielDudley 01-06-2011 01:52 AM

I went through all that BS. I'm older now, and I will not put up with it any longer.

DanielDudley 01-06-2011 01:59 AM

Of course I am a viable wage earner. Is there a biological clock ticking here ?

It might have more to do with bringing "junk" home.
When I told her the other day I was trading a set of pickups for a Jet City Amp she said something like "great, more clutter"
Nevermind that Jet City is going to NAMM next week, and will be demoing that very same set of pickups alongside their amps...so in essence, I'll be there.

So anyone going to NAMM, check out the Jet City guys. :D
