I'm pretty sure it will run the 24 hour event at Nurburgring along with James Glickenhaus' Ferrari P4/5 Competizone

It looks like a Noble to me.

There is another video out with the car on the track...in that video there are some overhead shots, and it apears that the fan is for additional engine cooling.

It looks like it is spinning as an exhaust fan instead of an intake fan...???

In fact, I'm pretty sure this car doesn't fit into even the GT1 class right now, much less any other LeMans class.

That's the problem, isn't it ? Where would they race that thing ? ALMS has dropped GT1, but then again if Corvette can run a big engine vs. Porsche's comparatively puny RSR motor, maybe this is the central engine solution to be competitive in GT2 again... I think the 997 RSR will get its ass handed to it this year, so that might have been a cool car for the lizards...

The 918RSR has a 6.2L V8 plus KERS, is that the comparatively puny motor you were talking about?

This is a car that doesn't know what it is supposed to be. It's got the chassis and finish of a supercar, half-interior for road use, non-necessary style items such as the rear fan, yet they call it a race car. It doesn't have a class to race in other than prototype at Nr24, and surely won't race anywhere in the totted-up leather wrapped dress as shown.

I would have rather seen it without the race colours, without the flybrid system, with a full 2 person interior and less conceptual, more production worthy intentions, to be released as a Carrera GT successor. Then at least it would have made sense.

I think its one of those cars they built, "because they could"

OMG! I want one! I'm sure it will cost me two years of gross pay...but I want it! And it has a V8!!!! It will even sound as good as it looks!

Wonder how long before Hyundai builds a $50k clone~

N!

PS: I sure hope that the silly "Lambo" doors are just for the show; every Honda Civic in town has these and a juice-can muffler-

Just found out from a friend that works at Porsche Cars North America (senior manager in marketing, so I guess he knows), the fan is used for cooling the electronics bay that is located between the cockpit and engine bay....LOTS of electronics in a hybrid. I really don't think it was built "just because they could", since Porsche AG calls it the 918 RSR Racing Laboratory. Sounds like they will enter it in some second tier races to work the bugs out of the technology. I think what we are seeing is the shape of racing in the future, and once again, Porsche is breaking the ground.

No it is not, and I thought my post was clear enough that you'd see I was talking about the current GT3RSR used by the lizards and other teams in ALMS, the 4.0...

Guess I was not clear enough, or you read too fast...
