Thumbs up I quit smoking, anybody else stop this year?

Quit a 3 pack a day habit for 5 years, figured I could handle the odd cuban cigar now and then, I couldn't and that led to 18 months of "back on the butts". Quit a 2 plus pack a day habit cold turkey, with the gum, that was a week ago, its in the bag but no more cubans for me.
Sorry for blowin my own horn but I do feel pretty good about it, I'm already over 300 smokes ahead of the habit.

I understand it's a learned behavior/habit thing
but aren't you now hooked to the gum..?

Congrats, you rock!

I have a friend that is able to smoke just one or two cigarettes a night, and can go days without smoking.

Not me. I followed a similar pattern as you. Smoked too much. Quit for 5 years. Started having an occasional cigar. Was buying a carton of cigarettes at Costco a month later.

Quit again and staying clean now. Some of us are like alcoholics when it comes to nicotine. One drink/smoke is all it takes. I envy my friend that can smoke or not smoke on demand, but I know that I can't. I'm glad I quit and won't look back.

I probably am dependant on the gum but thats OK, even when I quit before I still chewed the odd peice. The gum is easy to quit cause it tastes really bad.

Congrats! Keep up the fight. It has been three years smoke free for me. I have avoided cigars just because I was afraid the temptation would lead to smoking again. I have been tempted to enjoy a cigar recently, but I haven't had the courage yet. I am probably better off anyways....

congrats, it's hard...I convinced my dad to try one of those simulated cigarettes. That, combined with the gum, has been helping I guess but he hasn't quit completely.

Congrats to you all..

I've been off it for almost 10 months now. Quit cold turkey with no gum, patches etc... after 32 years.

Good luck.

My best friend quit(again)

Habit and physical addiction Rika. I am told it is easier to quit heroin than cigarettes, by more than one person with personal experience.

Congrads. I quit about 8 nine months ago. 2 packs a day and went cold turkey. I was very sick so it made it easy, since I already felt like crap.
Keep up the good work

Keep up the fight.

Congrats.

I quit cigs December 5th of 2009 when my uncle died at 59 of an unrelated health issue after 15 years. That single event caused me to lose the habit cold turkey.

I do enjoy a cigar (Ashton VSG's) here and there. I had to really focus on not rushing them for a while after I quit. I don't inhale..

Keep it up.

Hang in there, and thanks for the info on the cigars. I had thought about a good cigar. Now I know I can't.
