One of the first things I recommend to people - think of it as a 24 hour interview.

get recommendations from prior managers, peers, subordinates

make sure you have a complete.

Answer questions on topics you are an expert on.

I know several folks that are hired before their first interview... :)

I've got almost 650 connections, and those are all folks i know. LinkedIn has helped me and many others find jobs, contract assignments, references, etc... It's also a great way to find out where a former coworker or boss went...

+1 I find it interesting although of dubious actual value to keep an eye on former employees, customers, etc.
