What exactly is the purpose of this site? I get the impression of very business-like, a place to post your qualifications, etc.

Anyone here LinkedIn?

Yes, It landed both myself and my G/F in very good jobs since we both found the positions on LinkedIn. Actually, a recruiter found my profile on there and contacted me through that.

There is a Pelican group on Linkedin.

Think of Linkedin as the social network for the professional.

Been discussed here as recently as last month.

Like anything else you get out of it what you put into it.

I had a need for a specific skill set and rather than advertise for the position I popped my requirements into Linked In, filtered on my geographic location, found some candidates, one in particular that seemed very promising. Called him first, hired him the next day. In total it took less than a days effort from start to finish and the kids a superstar.

Linked in is the facebook for those that want to get ahead in life. ;)

But nothing beats ACTUAL, REAL networking. You know, human contact? Elusive these days.

I am on there. Can't say that it does a whole ton for me overall; however, I use it extensively to research people I am looking to recruit, sell to, partner with, etc. Before I call somebody for the first time I either search directly on LinkedIn or just via a web search engine which often points back to LinkedIn if they're listed.

I need to get on there soon, start building my network over the next few years for when I get out of school.

My best use was to connect with the CEO of a company that I wanted to create a partnership. Through LinkedIn I was able to get introduced to a Board member that connected me with the CEO. He took my call and a few months later we signed the deal.

Been getting bombarded with emails from recruiters lately. I have an interview soon as a result of my profile on LinkedIn. It's nice to be wanted.

I'm not but a few friends I work with are and they seem to get regular job offers through someone reading their profile.
