Why do I get the feeling that Adam's ford would have lasted longer if not driven by a moron. I really wonder if Tanner's win was as much about being able to drive the terrain without destroying the vehicle as how tough the truck was.... Of course it is pretty hard to kill an SBC.....

i have been recording it. but find little time to watch it.

last one i saw..i was wide eyed, mouth gapping..stunned when that white helmet mystery guy was blasting the Ford Raptor around that little road course with careless abandon. it was AMAZING. i thought for sure it was going to roll over. those big tires were howling in protest.

I think the main problem is everyone needs too stop comparing it to Top Gear UK. It's supposed to be TG America!

Traditional American car culture is way different than the kind of snobbish Eurocentric car culture. While the European auto enthusiam mostly revolves around "sports cars", the American culture has a much wider range. Your average typical car guy is into anything with wheels and some type of propulsion. Anywhere from your home build orange crate scooter all the way up to big rigs, and everything in between.
The show is supposed to appeal to that type of audience. I really dont think the majority of viewers pay much attention the the hosts interaction. They just want to see cars, trucks , etc ,etc... go fast and make noise!
That's very true, but they need to come up with some new ideas. Using the same segments, same format, and most of the same challenges makes comparisons inevitable. The truck comparison was good because it was America-centric and unique, even if I was rooting for the Toyota. :D

"Why didn't you hit me in the bumper?"

"Yeah, you do like it in the rear"

The chemistry is getting better...

That might be possible if they didn't pull all the same gags, i.e. bumping into each others cars all the time and the toyota truck lurking in the bushes in the alaska special.
Also, the hillbilly guy needs to go... sorry.

scottmandue 01-19-2011 11:30 AM

Which guy is supposed to be the comedian? Seriously.

I see some cool cars but not much to laugh at.

masraum 01-19-2011 12:25 PM

Of course if we were like the other 90% of the population that had never seen the UK version, and this was all new to us, we might think it was really awesome.

Argh if they just replaced Rutledge Wood every time I turn the channel thinking its real Top Gear I get disappointed but watch it for a little bit until he comes on. I don't find him funny at all... Tanner's alright and the other guy is ok.

Still hatin it. I got confused along they way and thought they would at least talk about one or two cars an episode that are new and desirable which TG UK does. I guess if I was in the market and looking to buy a $1K truck, I should of been watching. :(

If you watch the UK specials like Boliva where they drive three 4 wheel drive trucks bought unseen from the internet across the Amazon, up and over the Death Road through the Andes, up a volcano, down across the Atacama desert, and down the 2000 foot dunes to the Pacific ocean, you will see that the specials are adventures, no car reviews like the normal episodes. UK episodes are actually 1 full hour without commercials, so they take 80 minutes on TV.

The Botswana special was funny with the Beetle trailing them the whole way. They admitted it was the only car that made it trouble free (well, the Opel did well) and that it was the car to drive for the task. :)

Especially Kari. ;)

I like DMotor TV.

I watched one episode and couldn't bring myself to watch another. My wife (who likes the BBC's version) opinion as we watched: "This is really lame."

+1 on that.... It's the best US car show bar none. The hosts are slowly gelling, hell, I have the first 7 seasons of top gear UK on hard drive, season 1 blew chunks.... TG USA only suffers when compared to the UK version. I like it more and more, too... No it's not as funny as the original, but it's still better than 99% of regular TV or reality shows, and definitely getting better. I would not miss it....

I think the Alaska one was good because it wasn't directly lifted from the UK adventures, too....

masraum 01-20-2011 09:50 AM

I just watched the Alaska special last night. It was great. I've never seen any of the UK specials, I need to check them out.

gtc 01-20-2011 09:55 AM

I'm not sure if it counts as a special or not, but the uk episode with the Reliant Robin rocket is epic.

I somehow missed the Bolivian Adventure. I'm watching it now & am really enjoying it...And they haven't even gotten their cars on land yet!

Clarkson driving the Robin is so funny I had to pause the show to catch my breath. That is just a fantastic episode.

masraum 01-20-2011 10:21 AM

Clarkson driving the Peel P50 is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time

71T Targa 01-20-2011 10:28 AM

Where is the best place to watch it on-line?
