Ultimate Rat Rod Thread

Visited a friend in Connecticut who built this Rat Rod. Cost him about a thousand bucks total - most of the cost was to rebuild the core for the radiator. He used a 60's Caddy engine, steering column and tranny, rearend from a Mustang and a front end from a 1929 John Deere tractor. He built the frame from iron he got from Home Depot (old shelving). All sorts of add-ons. I looked at the thing for 30 minutes and kept finding more stuff to look at.

Edited - pic removed - language. -Z-man.

There is a thin line between Rat Rod and POS, and I think this "creation crossed it.

Looks interesting, but looks more like an experiment than something usable. Is he going to do anything more for an exhaust? Is it street legal?

I applaud his efforts. But not the result. It ain't for me, but then I have to assume he didn't build it for me.

No way its street legal - it shows up at car shows in parking lots and gets a big hoot. It is more of a spoof than anything.

Not my cup off tea but than again RatRods are really the cusp of what is acceptable. To each there own...

Keep in mind, the guy who built it - "Pigman" although a great guy and a ball of fun to have a beer or three with is not known for any artistic excellence! Here he is turning over the ignition, the rear brakes! and his Pit Bull "Fat Head" who loves me (prolly cuz I feed him sausage!).

Should name it the 'Assfault Grumbler!"

He told me he took it out from his shop and burned out the tires. The force achieved once the tires caught slammed forward the "car" which made the shifter disengage and throw to reverse sending him 50mph backwards almost instantly ending up on a jogging path not 20 feet from a runner. He said the guy was ghost white with jaw wide open. It must have been the most incredible thing that jogger witnessed all year!

Note to Self - when making a RatRod, use a Caddy tranny - darn things are bullet proof!

Fat Head is a sweet dog - Pigman told me that the dog doesn't care much for too many people but I made a buddy by way of a few hunks of sausage and no eye contact!

I can imagine that guy was white as a ghost, just seeing that guy (Pigman) driving that thing would have most guys terning white if he were coming towards you, especially if he had the peddle mashed burning off the tires (and the longest zoomies i've ever seen).

Like asphaltgambler said "that's really more of an "art" car than rat rod"

and art is definitely subjective,

Although that guy looks like he would be a hoot to hang out for a day in his shop and get his take on things.

Something about his licence plate doesn't look official.

Trust me, there is nothing about him or anything he has to do with that is official! One thing is certain, if I was in a bar fight, at Sturgis or needing 'something' that skirted the foundations of legality he is in my top 5 to call!
