New car resto shows sucks

The Discovery Channel aired a new show last night. It's about some guys who go to a junk yard, rescue an old classic, and restore it. Last night they restored a T-bird. Sounds great, right?

Problem is, I could only watch for 5 minutes. It was mostly about the guys bickering and swearing at each other. Just like a lot of other car shows. I turned it off when the young guy took off during the middle of the job, while the old guy went looking for him, found out he left, then got all pi$$ed off. Whatever.

Why can't they just show some civilized people restoring a car and showing how things are done? Like This Old House, but for cars?

I like the show wheeler dealers. They buy some 25 y/o car and fix it up. That's pretty much where I learned to wrench on cars. They have the mechanic Ed, and the car dealer mike. They have done a few porsches too (924, 928, 951, and a midyear 911)

Yeah, I caught a few minutes of it... also got sucked in by "restoring an old T-Bird"

Same old BS... amazes me how unoriginal TV has become.

Another pet peeve about car/bike shows is the incredibly stupid time lines on these builds and how the crew all stand around with red eyes and stupid grins talking about how they stayed up all night to "get er dun". If I had a classic car and I was paying someone to restore it I would like them to go home and get some rest so they can do their best work. Besides these cars/bikes are not anyones DD... no one NEEDS to have their 23 Ford roadster or ridiculously uncomfortable chopper done in a week or a month.

Sorry... rant over.

+1 I agree- more "how to" and less "personality". Makes it unwatchable. I can't understand why all the shows are like that, unless that is just what people want. Obviously not what folks on this forum want.

Search for "Wheeler Dealers" on BBC. Good, level headed car guys playing with sports cars.

Last was a BMW CSI 435, before that a 911SC and an Alfa before that.

I have no desire al all to hear folks argue and bicker. Show me the build, and edit the arguing. I don't understand the need for the stupid deadline. Let the restoration happen in a normal time-line.

That wasn't a restoration on that T-bird, that was putting a new dress on an old whore! I watched part of it, and had to laugh, just a bunch of hacks repainting a car poorly. I'm surprised the old guy spraying the car is still alive! He was wearing a dust mask instead of a respirator when spraying the color. Which was not even a factory color by the way!

I refer to it as the "American Choppers" plague. Everyone is trying to ride the coat tails of their dynamic/success. The general population loves the dirty laundry. I did enjoy some of American Choppers and continued watching with the "noise" muted.

OMG those clowns are the worst

For some reason the people who produce these "reality" shows think that the audience needs the soap opera drama queen crap to be interested.

HELLO!!!!!!! We are men who like cars. give us a show about fixing up cars without the phony drama and we're happy.
Through in a few good beer commercials and a girl with big boobs and we are ecstatic.

I've seen just about every episode so far.

I like the way they make $200 profit on a car after they fix it up, but Ed's 100 or so hours of labor per car is evidently free

How about "Horsepower TV" and "Trucks", and "Powerblock?" I think those shows are pretty cool, and don't have the American Chopper disease.
