I don't, I've hasd people come to look at the car at all hours, they no show and then come by the next day. I'm worried about people rippin the wheels or emblems etc.... I don't do it anymore,I tell them to call when they get to the local mall and I take the car to them. I've had people that sound real legit but they no show and come the next day. What do you do?

I do, I have bought and sold more than 10 cars in the last ten years and haven't had a problem. Even here in scary SoCal. I have them come here to look at it, I don't want to sit in a parking lot and wait for no shows.

If you don't give your address, I think you have something to hind.
In your case, I would tell callers that the car is in the garage. Call before come so you can be home waiting and take the car out for test drive. Spend $50 for a used police uniform and hang them on your garage wall with some of your guns ![]()

Won't your address be on the title anyway when you sign it over?
No way I would ever invite anyone to my house if I were selling anything. I meet them, if I am selling something that is a big ticket item, car for example, we do the deal at my bank.

It's funny that most of you who would not give out your address are from CA. Heck, here, we would give out the adress and invite them in for a beer or two. Look over the car, take it for a spin, just get the car back before the sun goes down.

I give them my address and full disclosure on the car. Do yourself a big favor and take out full coverage insurance on the car before you put it up for sale. One dip-stick behind the wheel and you could be out all your $$$....
If someone wanted to meet at the mall to sell me their car I would, instead, suggest that we meet at the police station. That way both of us can feel comfortable and as I cannot put an address with the car, I could have the nice officers run the VIN to make sure it isn't stolen. I am VERY distrustful of people who want to sell electronics, expensive clothing, or cars by meeting me at the mall. The exception to this would be if you lived in the absolute middle of nowhere. If I were selling a car in the middle of nowhere I would give the person the choice of coming to my house or meeting me at the place of their choosing (that was safe, a mall, a bank, etc). angela

will "Do yourself a big favor and take out full coverage insurance on the car before you put it up for sale." protect you if someone crash your car and accidentally kill someone else? Will the other party/ins go after the driver, or the car's owner (whether you have ins. or not)? I really don't know.

I met a guy at his work last week and drove his Z3, he was going to let me take it by myself. I don't do that, I go with my car. I could have met him at his house but his work was closer. It's as funny as people blocking their plates on the car when they post it. When's the last time someone stole a car from that. I know, someone will come up with one in 2001 that they say got stolen that way but of the zillions of cars on the web, that's gotta be a pretty small number.

lots of flakers from selling stuff (vehicles or otherwise) from craigslist, some of which I gave my address to since they said they were coming or on their way...then didn't show up. Luckily, nothing has happened...yet.

Speaking of craigslist. What's with posting ads and not anwering emails? I've sent several on cars I'm interested in and get no repsonse, yet the ad keeps running.
Sometimes I think people run ads just to get email addresses. |

If the insurance is valid under the circumstances of use, and you have collision damage insurance, then yes, the car would be repaired. If it stolen on a test drive and you have comprehensive (valid under the circumstances) then the car will be paid for. If they kill someone (with your validly insured car) the insurance will pay out. Then the other guy will go after you for the rest of the dough. Insurance is not a magic bullet or a singing sword. But you are more protected WITH insurance than you are without it. angela

When the VW Thing was for sale, one of the guys that looked at it broke into the garage and stole the wheels and tires off of it.
It is more of an insult when they use your tools to do it....

I meet people at my office. If they did intend to return and steal something they will be out of luck.
