Book Covers - Whats the Dealio? Less Than You Would Think Is All!

Book cover designs. Where do come from? I was wondering how the publisher came up with the design for my book. So I e-mailed them, talked to the designer. She told me she just liked the look of what she came up with and thought it would be cool on the shelf.

OK, Cool! I showed it to my kiddos - girl 8 and boy 12 and they asked me what it meant. I said it was designed with being attractive to the glance. I did go on to tell them that if we wanted to analyze it we could have some fun! Perhaps the white background represented the openness and purity of the topic and the various rectangles of different transparent colors represented all the various aspects that come into play when trying to understand the topic. They seemed to be OK with the fact that it just looked cool.

It reminds me of the time many many years ago when I went to an art show with a friend of mine. I really went for the free cheese and wine and he went to try to meet girls. We came upon one piece that was a mosaic of clothes buttons that, when viewed from a distance, made the face of a women. My first impression was "dang, that's a bunch of buttons, the artist must have raided the junk drawer of 1000 people." My friend noticed on a placard that the artist was a women and she was at the show. He decide that she would be an interesting person to meet. It helped that she was rather cute. So in his attempt to impress her, we sidled up and started small chat. He told her how much he liked her work and that the one piece with the buttons (he mentioned the name) was particularly moving. He went on to ask her if the intent of the work was to capture the modern women's struggle with domestic affairs and being relegated to a step above servant status? Was it a depiction of her internal struggle to be more than domestic and pedestrian but to actually attain more? She looked at him and smiled. Her pale blue eyes glistened and her diminutive frame slouched slightly as her shoulder length pixie cut blonde hair cascaded over her face. She said...

"I just like buttons is all"

I left with a belly full of wine and cheese. He left with an $800 craft of a button women and the phone number that would later create more issues in his life than he could afford!

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...

It is probably a great book, but I suspect it would put me to sleep.

You would be surprised! Although the title may be a bit thick, there are many examples and interesting stories. Buy it and if you don't think it is one of the top 100 books you have ever read then ask for your money back.

We are rolling out a new company/sub brand in Europe.

I named it 760.

CEO asks me what it meant.

Told her, far as I know nothing. I just like the way it sounds.

She says she needs something more than that for investors and press.

I told her she can tell them it means 8 o'clock.

Sometimes I frustrate her.

Since it's a sub brand, just modify it to '760 Fathoms'.

We named our new business "SECURITRUS" since all of the good names were already taken (Welcome to Securitrus). I like the book cover, Mike!

Before I clicked on your link, I was wondering if you might be selling some kind of medical truss.

Just kidding.

I have no doubt.

Your cover is colorful and catches the eye, which must be caught before the title is noticed and read; so I think it's a good cover.
