Now with NASCAR and what the Grand Am series is becoming reminds me of championship wrestling.
Yep, nascar is as close to real racing at WWF is to real wrestling.
Both are more about showmanship & predetermined results than real competition

Remember when they drove under caution most of the night trying to give JR the Rolex win after his Daddy died?? Hell, just look at the nascrap season after Dale SR died, tailored for JR, rules overly enforsed for some, not at all for others.

They said, NOT FAIR! and eventually started leaving. Porsche even bailed, and they didn't even have enough cars or fans to finish the 1974 season.

There was usually one completely dominant team and as the technology went crazy the costs went through the roof too, and when the energy crisis hit it died.

The fans loved it, USRRC wasn't really crazy about it, but lots of the racers beotched and moaned like no one's business because of the lack of even competition.

BTW, Grand Am actually came to be because of can Am. it was intended to be sort of an evolutionation of Can Am:
I"m not talking "towards the end", all series die for some reason. During its heyday it was the most watched series around. The fans and OWNERS loved it, because it was really no rules at all. Bring on your best. The cost's did "not go through the roof" at all. According to Denny Hulme, their cars were junk and just barly able to make it from race to race, at the end, maybe worth a few thousand. After 1968, it had nothing to do with the USRRC, it was not called that and not run for that championship. You refer to mostly 1974, and yes, it stunk, but think back to their prime time late 60's and 70's. I don't know why we cant have a series like this today, with no, or basic, rules.
