Not much snow in Denver (1 or 2 inches), but the low last night was -15.

Now, why does Lotus call this a "Demister" and not a "Defroster". If the heater just put out more heat than noise. Think I will take the Jeep.

Just got done shoveling the driveway. Took 2.5 hours. I gave up using the snow blower, because either it is broken, or the snow is too tightly packed for the 15-year-old Craftsman POS. I broke a snow shovel too. (Thank God I have two.)

Snow was about 2 feet with 1.5 foot valleys and 3 foot drifts. The stuff at the bottom was hard to move.

Had some substantial drifting in spots, so I had to break out the antique Melroe/Bobcat skid loader to clear parts of the driveways that the plow equipped 4-wheeler just could not budge but other than that, our snow event in NW Ohio was not too big of a deal. I dug out the old Artic Cat and my daughter and I took turns smashing drifts along the tree/fence lines..... fun day... much better than being at work!

Now...I'm probably going to get clobbered for this post, but I just want you all to know that it is 70 degrees F in Fort Lauderdale right now. I went running in a pair of shorts and no shirt today- it hit 78 degrees. I have all the windows on my house open right now- it is a really beautiful night!

[Am I bad or what?]

N!

PS: Why don't you people move down here? Why do you continue to live in that? I grew up in Michigan; as soon as I was 18, I moved out of the house and I've lived in Florida ever since!

I would leave MI today if I could. Some day I will relocate my family to St. Augustine, FL, that's my long-term goal.

Why not Florida? Because we would melt in July & August into a puddle of sweat. Not to mention the world's biggest congregation of fat disgusting people who have to ride carts just to move around. And I don't need to put it in green because anybody that has spent some time in Florida knows that it is true.

Our storm was a ho-hum. About 6 inches of powder. Of course, I didn't leave the house except to snow blow the drive.

I made it to the office around 10 without much trouble as the roads were empty. I stayed until 3 and then came and shoveled the driveway again. I broke my favorite shovel during the morning cleanup so I repaired that before dinner. Wife and kids made cookies and a tasty crock pot chicken thing. Just perfect after the cold day. I helped the folks across the street finish up their driveway after supper and then shoveled the back patio. I made a big pile of snow so the kids can make a snowfort this weekend.

It was a lot of work but, in the end, it was a good day.

For the few times a year we get a snowstorm, I'll stay here. Michigan is a beautiful state.

At least two feet in Chicago. Our alley way was nearly impassable until we were able to talk the private plow that was doing a parking lot near by into making a pass through. Before the plows cars would have had no chance. I was struggling in the Xterra. Luckily I gave my car to my dad on monday and got the Xterra from him or I would be struggling right now.

I was supposed to fly to Utah to go skiing today but that was canceled. Then my 6am flight tomorrow was canceled. Hopefully the 845am flight that I currently have a seat on will make it out of here so I can get on the slopes.

LOL! I have NEVER had a snow day. It would have been nice because the kids were home today and will be tomorrow.

That was a major PIA clearing the snow tonight. The drifts were crazy! Then Ihelped out a friend clear off his pond were the kids skate. I spent at least 3 hrs blowing snow. Gonna sleep good tonight...

Art - if you ever want to get together while you're in Lansing shoot me a PM and we can figure something out.

IDOT and the City of Bloomington have given up on plowing the roads and interstates. There's no point. Anything that is plowed will just be blown back in ten minutes. Sustained winds in the 40 mph range with gusts up to 55 mph.

My boss sent us home today at 11:00 a.m. My boss follows the rules and never sends people home early for weather. Official announcement of the office closing came an hour later. There's no way it will reopen tomorrow. It may take the city two more days to clear the roads.

My street is 1/4 mile long and we live in the middle. I can't see either end.
Chris,

Up in Chi-tpwn the main streets were clear. Trians, buses runnibg on a Sunday schedule. Most on the main arteries clear too. Side streets, alleys, secondary streets and LSD are a mess.

Mayor Bloomberg should take lessons on how to remove snow in a big city. After all, in this town, his job depends on it.

I'm back.
A few minutes after I made the first post in this thread the power went out on my road. It was eerie, sitting here in the dark. I could see flashes in the sky and hear the "bang" of transformers exploding in the areas where there was still power. Every minute or so you would hear the sound of a tree going down. It sounded like someone setting off a brick of firecrackers and then "whoomp!" You could hear limbs falling all over the place. Something big was burning about a mile east of here - a house or barn I guess - and there were a lot of sirens for about half an hour. Then the sleet and snow turned to rain and the wind really picked up. More trees came down for a while, but I guess all the rain and wind knocked the ice off the trees. By midnight it was back to snow and strong winds.
Walking outside is extremely treacherous because everywhere the snow had been shoveled yesterday that is inch of smooth ice with 6 inches of snow on top of that. You can't tell what you are walking on. I spent the morning cutting limbs and helping neighbors clear their driveways and I fell at least a dozen times.
Power came on about 7 PM so it was off about 24 hrs - no heat, no lights, no water. The fireplace kept most of the house at 55-60 degrees today when it was 20 outside, but the forecast is for 5-10 tonight, so I'm glad we got power back.

We did not get much snow here in NJ. Just freezing rain in the morning. And that is fine with me, because we already got dumploads of it since december, and there is nowhere else to put it.

Luckily, the ice storm here (west side of NJ) wasn't as bad as TWC predicted. Woke up this AM with power, although the lights did briefly dim a few times. The limbs on our big Maple and Chestnut were hanging pretty low, but no breakage, and since it went up to 37 this afternoon, most of the ice was shed.

I went out and cleared the ice from the steps, and salted the hell out of the walk to our home office (it's tax season) and chipped the ice off late this afternoon. Man, am I glad I don't have to drive to work anymore. We dodged a bullet here, I think.

I just got off the phone with friend living in northern North Dakota near the Canadian border.

He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling.

The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force.

His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare.

He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.
