He's going to need a new jacket if he can't find a similar color bike.

And this video makes it clear why one should always watch the car behind you, when you are sitting still. I do it in cars, too.

The guy is very lucky. Shame about the bike...

YES!

Vic Elford talks about that in his "Performance Driving" book. Talks about it probably saving his life.

He was in his 911, was purposely in the right lane (never get 'boxed in in a middle lane) and left a car length in front of him. And... keep it in gear with the clutch in, ready to go.

Saw a car approching from the rear at high speed, no way he could stop.

Vic turned right, drove clear off the road into the weeds and watched the car destroy the car that had been in front of him.

When you're stopped, watching the mirror can be critical.

I did something like that in my 914. I had to turn left to get into the parking lot at work. I was waiting for traffic from the opposite direction to have a spot for me to turn left. This was not an intersection just a business parking lot on a 4 lane road. I was watching the rear view mirror and saw a dumb ass looking at her passenger and not slowing down. I could see she was not going to stop so I dumped the clutch and laid rubber and changed lanes. She never slowed down. That is one reason I don't carry a pistol in the car, I would have shot her if I had a gun. She deserved to die. She tried to kill me with her car.

I never ever sat behind a car with my backside exposed. Every single intersection I would lane split to the front - or minimum a couple cars deep. If I was the first at the intersection then yes eyeballs on the rear view with clutch in and in gear ready to go.

Looks like he was following too close at too high of a speed for the conditions. In the video, it looks like he was hard on the brakes to stop without hitting the guy in front of him. Not surprising that the little old lady behind him didn't react quickly enough to stop in time. Riding a bike isn't like driving a car....if you have to stop fast, you're better off riding up along side the car in front of you rather than becoming a sandwich.

You are a frigging idiot. Look at the video. He was going the same rate of speed as everyone else. He didn't hit the brakes hard. He came to a normal stop. His only error was thinking the person behind him would be paying attention.

Didn't Choc have a Harley before moving to the BMW? A normal stop on a sport bike is like a panic stop on a Harley, right?

What I see is nothing abnormal until the SUV in front of him stops hard mid block, you can see the rear of the SUV rise a bit.

Also the cars in the left and right lanes continue past them both at the rate of sped they were all doing.

Towards the end you can see another car stopped in front of the SUV, in fact you can catch it's roof thru the windshield of the SUV just before he gets rear ended.

Guy on bike did nothing wrong, was not following too close or speeding.

Looks like the silver sedan stopped in the middle of the block for some reason, SUV came to hard stop, old lady may have been distracted for a second and was not expecting any cars to stop mid block.

Looks like they were driving into late afternoon sun and the I don't see the SUV's 3rd brake light come on, the right one does not look like it's on either until the biker flies over it.

I wouldn't call that a "gental tap" by any means. It crushed that bike right between his legs!

I'd say it was a lucky circumstance, if an accident was in the cards. Looks to me like his bike was just close enough to the vehicle in front of him for him to not get thrown forward a lot. Plus his front wheel must have been oriented to where it caused the bike to be sort of accordioned/crunched up under him instead of being thrown upward or to one side. I'd say he was lucky in that accident, not to say there wasn't any injury from being whipped around. He's alive.

Somebody pee in your cornflakes this morning?

I didn't study the friggin video...just looked at it and it appeared to me as though he stopped hard to avoid the car in front. When I'm in those situations, I make it a point to stop out of harms way where possible (note that the right lane next to him was wide opened).

If you perceived it differently, than I'll defer to your far higher self esteem. I've been riding motorcycles for 30 years and have managed to avoid even a scratch. How about you?

Who rides with a helmet cam every day?? After seeing this, more might start...could be the thing that gets your survivors something for your trouble...or costs your estate everything.
