Funny mechanic story
Today I took the Lexus to a small garage for replacing the O2 sensor. I knew which one has to be replaced because I read the OBDII code with my laptop. It is behind the firewall, a pain to access. I have to pass inspection soon, so it had to be fixed.
When I showed up, the shop was closed, but a mechanic was there, waiting for the owner to show up. We started chatting, nice car, he asked me to pop up the hood. The boss did not show up, but the mech said he had a friend with a garage who could do it. OK. Off we go to NAPA auto parts, get the sensor, park in the back next the machine shop entrance. We also bought a MAPP gas torch. The mech said he could do it right here, under the rain in the parking lot. The guys at NAPA told me he sucks, has be thrown out of several garages, do not let him touch your car. But I could tell he knew what he was doing, so what the heck... He got a wrench and a jack in the shop, and replaced the sensor in 45 minutes. I gave him $100 for the job. I know any dealer would have charged a lot more, and it was a job I did not want to do. On the way back, he told me he had to go to a foursome with 3 girls later tonight. Maybe that is why the other guys think he sucks ![]()
