Shipping company recomendations

Hi there,
I'm having a '68 912 shipped from St. Louis to Seattle and I need to find a good auto transport company. Any suggestions out there of reputable companies?

thanks!
Dustin

Not DAS.

I was happy with the service from Intercity.

You get what you pay for, even if everything is "equal" on a sales brochure.

I use Fedex/Passport and Intercity.

Avoid Horseless Carriage like you would a herpes infection.

Shipped my 55 190sl with Horseless and had no issues.

End of day you want to deal directly with the carrier and not a broker.

Key question is will the car stay in the same truck that picked it up.

A lot of the smaller and independents us a central depot.

They pick up, drive to a big depot, unload and pick up cars that are waiting and go back.

So your car could sit there for a few hours or weeks depending on final destination.

Also being taken off and put on the carrier as few times as possible reduces risk of damage.

If they won't give you a way to contact the driver directly while in route then pass.

Back when I sold my Mercedes 190, it was to be picked up at my parents house and shipped up to the new owner in the UP of michigan. i ran to toledo with my dad to pick up a new motor for the TR4. and was running late. As I was screaming across Ohio trying to get back to Indiana, my cell phone rang, and it was the trucker, at my parents house, saying he was ready to pickup the car. Luckily I was smart enough to lock the trunk with all of the paperwork and extras, and leave the keys on the dash. (My parents live out in the country). Anyway, the trucker got the car started, and drove it the 1/2 mile to where he left his rig. (My parents live in the sticks on a very curvy road.)

Anyway, about 30 minutes later, I get a phone call from the trucker. In a completely serious voice.... "Hello Sir, I was able to get the car loaded. I'm on my way up to Chicago. Just to be sure, this was the Burgandy Buick Riviera, right?" (my dad's DD that was parked beside the mercedes)

me: "What?!"

him: "Oh, you mean i wasn't supposed to load up the Buick? I saw the keys on the seat and thought that was the car."

at this time i turn to my dad (who's driving) and tell him that they accidentally took the Riv.

Anyway, we keep going back and forth for a minute or so before he busts up laughing and tells me he's pulling my leg....that he did, in fact take the proper car.

Long pointless story, but i gotta give that trucker credit. he really had me going.

I believe that was Reliable Carriers, if memory serves me right

I think I've used 5 different companies over the years. Some great, some good and some (goldrush) HORRIBLE!
Call several of them and then call DeMoise. The best door to door enclosed service and the best price of all of them including reliable and intercity. Tell Bill that Robert and JoAnne sent you.
