I believe they have the worst save % of any winning goalies. Neither was very good, they both played for very good teams. A superior team can carry a goalie, but league parity means it rarely happens, that and the absence of teams with two/three weak goalies. Aside from Philly, where weak goalies like to congregate.
No, both of them had good playoff runs when they won their cups.

I watched Osgood the last time the Wings won the cup. He was average until the playoffs when he was outstanding.

I thought the Flyers played a near flawless game last night. The pressured the puck with athority and kept the Sabers pinned into their own zone. The showed patience after they didnt score on some great chances early in the game. They didnt start squeezing the stick too hard after not scoring on those chances. They got the bounces in their own zone because they played confident and smart in their zone. The kicker was scoring on the PP to take a 2-0 lead. That was the death nail for the Sabers since the Flyers PP was pathetic in the series.

Boston came out of the gate fast. Looks like Montreal woke up. This has been the closest and most entertaining series so far. Too close to call.

yup...most of the time it comes down to a mental error. But the B's have been consistently better tonight.

Ference has every right to the real estate has Haperin. There has to be some level of accountability. Halperin didn't watch where he was going and Ference didn't move out of his way. He did position his sholder to get the better end of the collision but that's hockey.

Props to the Habs: They played well. 3 of the 4 that the B's won were OT games. Price made more miracle saves than Thomas tonight. Good game, great series.
That said, JJ: I think you may need this:

As usual, I'll be pulling for the team that beat us... until they are out.

Best of luck against trader220 team, should be a good series too.

My wager should be honor by the week-end.

I think the point has been missed. While I agree with your thought about accountability, it is Ference's apparent lack of respect (on that particular play) for a fellow athlete that should be called into question. It was to all intents & purposes, a "predatory hit" He did have Halperin at a disadvantage as Halperin was turning & watching play develop up-ice. The puck & the play were on the way to clearing the zone by then & Ference could have 'let-up'. The fact he'd squared up with his shoulder at contact (resulting in a whiplash effect) showed intent & should not be legitimized as a 'hockey play'. This was not incidental or accidental contact. It wasn't a particularly bright move & at the very least, was interference & could have had a more serious ending.

Cheers
JB

respectfully disagree. What Ference did is no better than that Jets coach sticking his knee out to trip an opposing player. There was no offensive or defensive purpose to his "position his shoulder" and could easily be perceived as a desire to hurt an opponent.

I agree. Watch the replay. He went out of his way to hit Halpern. Should have been a penalty, hence the disciplinary hearing.

It's not MMA. 'He wasn't looking so it was okay to hit him in the head' doesn't work any more. This was a predatory hit of a defenseless player, exactly what the NHL is trying to remove:

Rule 48.1 Illegal Check to the HeadA lateral or blind side hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact is not permitted.

Let's not discuss Kelley's stick to the throat of Hamerlik.

The best team won, but I am disappointed in the Bruin's level of play. It does not bode well for round 2.

No, both of them played for good teams. Osgood had a .918 save percentage in 97-98 and Barrasso had a .907 average.

Say what you want, those are not good numbers. They are two of the lowest numbers of modern goalies to win a cup.

JS Giguere won the cup with a 0.945 save percentage.

However, over the past 30 years, teams with the better goalie save

percentage have gone 18-11 (62.2%). Over recent years, since the high-scoring period of

the mid-80’s to the mid-90’s, teams with the better save percentage have gone:

· 3-0 over the last 4 years (teams had the same save percentage one year),

· 6-1 over the last 8 years,

· and 13-4 over the last 18 years.

So yea, a good goalie is almost a lock, once you get to the final.
