Filmed a Billy Mays style "commercial" to poke fun...

Yep. Well, sort of.

I'm poking fun at the state of my niche industry, hopefully with a big stick.
Over the last few years, several people have begun using hype and BS to sell products. It's been pissin' me off quite a lot lately, seeing people mislead into thinking if they buy a certain product, they'll get a certain sound out of their guitar.
With amps and stompboxes, sure. To a point,.
With pickups... not so much. A pickup won't"nail" the Van Halen "brown sound" or the Clapton "Beano" Tone or Sabbath or anything else, for that matter. Got to dial in the AMP and STOMPS. And you'd better have something reasonably close to the originals, too... A pickup either will or won't feed a similar signal and characteristics down the line...

So, speaking out agains tthe current state of hype and BS with "Claptonbuckers" and "Pagebuckers" and others that have no association with the actual player, I filmed what basically is a parody of my own niche.

I did about a million takes of it... No script. I'm not very verbally dexterous, so it was pretty hard to rattle off what I got out.

So far the responses have been great.
thinking of doing some more, with better syncing to the playing.

No. I won't cut my hair.

WARNING: Strong textual language at end of video.

Classic....ya gotta love that last tune from Mr. Johnson.

Yo, did not know you were a luthier...I am having a 6 string bass built right now. The body and neck are from Warmoth and then I am having the master luthier that worked with and for Greg Curbow put it together....Doug Somervell whom I am sure you have heard of.

Got a site where I can see your guitars?

Like 71T said.... used to be. In fact, I worked at Warmoth in the mid '90's. Good stuff, but most of the best guys there went on and formed USA Custom Guitars.
Not sure of the Somervell name offhand, but I might have heard of him at some point.

For the next one I'm thinking of a Frankentien style clip... old black and white, grainy film. Mad scientist...peerring through a microscope. With the American Pie teacher/vintage educational film style voice stating "And heere we seeee the microoocrystaline struuucture of the steeeel"

I did about a million takes.. I'd get to "Were here and Jo-Bob's pickup shack would...DUPLICATOR 9000..." and have to start over. I'd forget the "latest and greatest line" or whatever... Or the long "Mordor" spiel about magnets...I flubbed it at the very end with "be tired no more" but decided to keep it.

Doing the audio part was pretty tricky. It gets pretty un-synced at the end. I had to play with stretching or compressing the lenght and bit to try to get it to match my playign as close as possible. No, I didn't play any of those parts...they were taken from masters and pasted in Sony Vegas, with the camera audio silenced in Audition at the appropriate time. I forget what riff it is, but if you listen VERY closely, at the very end there's about .2 seconds of the acoustic sound of the guitar that bled through the vocal parts...
