Despite the news, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is now in charge - as they always have been . . .

So is it a change or just a tactic to get the crowds off the streets & back to work? We shall see. I don't think we will see a radical change there anytime soon.

and now what..
M B is well organized..
the locals are not..
there is no Mandella to rally around..
so they have an election..
the MB throws in some 'sleeper' candidates..
then the MB snatches it ...like Hamas..
or at least gets their foot in the door..
over time using democracy to dismantle the same..
it's happening in many places..
so Egypt should be a breeze...

Fools one and all...

As posted on the Radio Tabs and to Neil Cauvto..

What we are seeing in Egypt is an undermining of the jihad's ideology as the only means of seeking an equitable society of fairness and justice under the laws of Allah. If one remembers it was Mohamed Atta the Egyptian who could not find a job at home with the higher education he had attained that flew one of the planes into the WTC on 911. If Atta had felt that he had control over his destiny in his own country than he would not have felt the need to grab it back by taking the Martyrs road. This Egyptian Revolution is defusing the fury that the Islamic jihad feeds on, for now the destiny of the people is in their own hands and not that of an authoritarian regime whether it be secular or religious. With these events in Egypt every two bit dictator, religious fanatic or tyrant from Timbuktu to Beijing should be afraid.

"People ran through the streets hugging each other and shouting, 'Egypt is free!' and 'The people have brought down the regime!'"

The celebration is no doubt premature. I hope the people of Egypt get a stable, humanitarian government soon, but their future is still in doubt. I pray for them.

Even if a democratically-elected government gets set up in Egypt, they'll still find an excuse to jack up oil/gas prices...

U don't get what just happened..

The Arabs have just gone from the 14TH century autocratic and religious rule to the 21ST century.

The numbers alone are just part of it.

I would bet on Israel's army over Egypt any day.

Really NOW? What would ever make U want to make that bet...

Hmmm could it be that the Egyptian Military in conjunction with Syria & Jordan got them combined azzes kicked in 48,56,67 & 73 (Jordan had opted out after 67). In 73 the AAArabs got the jump on the Israelies and still got themselves WOMPED for the effort.

That and the fact that NONE of the Israeli fighter aircraft have ever been shot down in aerial combat against the above mentioned foes.

September is a long way off...I sincerely hope that the people of Egypt will have the patience so needed to wait...

The army is in control...some may say then that nothing has changed. I think that at this point having no drastic change to the way Egypt is governed can only help the country. It will give at least give the opposition political parties time to get organised and prepare for the policital fight in September.

Getting rid of Mubarak could be considered the first and easiest step...now the people of Egypt are going to have to fight for their country and their future like never before.

Personally, I have grave concerns. Mubarak is a tyrant who has inflicted much pain on his country and his people....but I worry now about the vacuum left and what or who will fill that vacuum come September...

The Middle East is not the Western World and the two will never resemble each other. We have to remember that.

Your concerns are valid.

Here are the vacuum fillers:

General Omar Suleiman, Vice President and former intelligence chief
Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Deputy Prime Minister & Defense Minister
Lt Gen Sami Anan, chief of staff of the Egyptian army
Air Marshal Ahmed Shafiq, minister for civil aviation
Lieutenant-General Abd El Aziz Seif-Eldeen, commander of air defense
Vice-Admiral Mohab Mamish, chief of navy

And I doubt if they will be any rush to change anything that will impact their hold on power. They were obviously able to convince Mubarak to capitulate due to the unrest but they won't rollover easily themselves.

Switzerland freezes Mubarak assets | Herald Sun

I shudder to think just how much he and his entourage have 'taken' from Egypt.

lisa_spyder 02-11-2011 12:59 PM

Ian,

I think Suleiman is gone (or going) too...the others I am not sure. Suleiman is no better than Mubarak...

But what will happen come September. That is the million dollar question.

lisa_spyder 02-11-2011 01:02 PM
