On the Yellow Line at Eisenhower is the Hoffman Ctr (shopping), there's also several hotels...Holiday Inn, I believe a Marriott, Residence Inn. Hoffman has several restaurants, AMC Theater, and is close to Old Town Alexandria (even better restaurants and shopping!). If so inclined, there's also a metro stop in Alexandria on Van Dorn (Blue Line)....Comfort Inn nearby. After that, Franconia and not sure if there's hotels that far down.

Anyway, the metro stop near the Hoffman Ctr is a very very short walk.

Lived in Alexandria fro a few years....

Kings Street metro is great for getting into DC and there are a few hotels along the road between the metro and the water....all easy walking distance....closer to the water is great...

If you like coffee try the Alexandria Coffe Co on South Patrick street, abotu 20 yards form Kings Street... best coffee around.

No kidding? Learn something new every day. The last couple of times I've taken the family to DC we stayed there, kind of a cool 60s vibe to the place. Iirc it is the first Marriott built. I like it for the view of the river and the monuments, it's just down the street from the metro stop, and Georgetown is just across the bridge. I think parking in the "infamous" garage is minimal compared to most DC area hotels.

I'll have to bring a trench coat, Wayfarers, and Fedora next time for skulking around the parking garage.

That hotel is also not far from Ft. Marcy Park where Vince Foster committed Arkancide. And check out the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City where Ken Starr's goons picked up Monica Lewinsky after Linda Tripp set her up. The DNC is no longer located in the Watergate complex, but you can see where it was in there and it's kind of a cool place. If you know a Congressman or Senator personally, you might be able to get a dome tour of the U.S. Capitol. That's where you climb the ladders up inside the dome to the very top where the statue is. I got to do it when I worked there, but it's a very exclusive thing. Very cool.

I was wondering how long it would be until Monica was mentioned.

Here's a hotel me and my family have been staying in over the years. It is within 2 short blocks of the Air and Space Museum and the Mall. Holiday Inn Capitol, used to be known as the Holiday Inn Smithsonian. Depending on the day, the rates are about $140. plus the 14.5% Washington hotel tax. Special days go up to $350or so. To park your car it will add $30 bucks or so per day. BUT! You are very close to what you want, and if time is an issue(like wasting it on trains etc), close is best. All the museums take literally days to see. Also, the subway stop to get directly to Arlington is about a block away. (PS, the Washington Monument requires free advance tickets, which you get by going the box office by the monument early in the am the day you want to visit. I have taken a cab from the hotel to get there when it opens. The tickets give you an exact time to enter the line to the entrance.) We've actually stayed here many times and I can recommend it as a close and reasonable place for a family to stay. The pool is on the roof.
