Pre-1990 Porsche daily driver?
Just curious, how many classic Porsche's on Pelican are used as daily driver/primary vehicles?

(almost) daily driver
I have owned a 1980 SC coupe for 13 years. Much of that time it has been used as primary transportation. The only exceptions being when it was down for a major repair or upgrade. The down times are/were usually limited to a day or two. The last two years, I have used my truck in the summer so that I would have real a/c. Guess that I am getting wimpy in my old age!

Seasonal DD until the salt hits the roads
I put 10k on my 76 912E commuting 70 miles round trip to work 5 days a week.
Easy on gas, easy to own fun to drive. I love my 912E

My 78 SC is my DD most days, it's my NEW car. The backup for snow days is my 48 Chevy pickup. (OK, my wife has a Subaru, too, but that doesn't count)

Drove my '86 911 for 2 years as a DD...not so fun in the warmer months and/or days with heavy traffic. I would not do that again...rather keep the 911 for non commuting.

My 72 is a "3rd car" but for all intents and purposes it's an every-third-day-driver. It is VERY reliable!

'85 Carrera. bought last Summer at 227K miles. Nearing 233K miles... daily driver until I decided to backdate. Really no regrets in choosing it as DD.

1980 SC DD. Has great A/C. Runs like a top. I didn't take it skiing today but that is one of the few things I won't use it for.

1975 DD for the last 10 years. I do maintenace on the weekends - like this weekend was a new brake master cylinder. During the winter I wear an electric vest designed for motorcycles to keep warm. The summers around here aren't hot enough to worry about. My commute is pretty ideal - I don't have to get on a freeway - I can take surface streets for my 15 mile commute. If the car is down for repairs (which it rarely is) I can ride a bike or catch a ride with someone that lives near by.
I really can't image a car that is easier to repair and cheaper to run. It just works perfectly every day. I don't spend hardly any money on repairs, because it rarely needs them.

A 911 pretty much stays glued together.
Ever notice you never hear about electrical problems with any of them? (At least the aircooled) rjp

Had a '77 Targa bought with high miles on it at 4 years old. My wife ran it out to about 180K in 15 years with one motor rebuild. I think she did every day in the suburban environment for about 8K a year. Total maintenance for the 15 years was about 20K including the motor.
Depreciation (sold in '96) was about 8K. It is cheaper to drive other makes. |

Not a daily driver, but I drive my 84 Targa to work about 22 miles at least once a week in the cooler months. Not so much in the summer the A/C is no where near as good as my Camry.
