sale vs. sell

gotta get this off my chest. along the lines of "you're" and "your" etc.

when i see an ad for a car (or anything for that matter) that says something like:

"i must sale my 1988 porsche carrera" instead of "i must sell my 1988 porsche carrera."

i've never heard this in spoken language. it's only when people write.

perfect example:

Ducati 749R

At least he didn't use "sail", that would really be funny or sad.

i intentionally never capitalize in informal communication. kind of a trademark, i guess.

this is in contrast to somebody who doesn't know better.

I have been car shopping and the ads with the poor spelling usually turn up an idiot on the other end.

I'm about to buy from a used car dealer just to get 'er done. Funny, but a lot of the cars on lots aren't any more money than what people are asking privately.

It's a notion that thieves can find the location of the car by the plate. Used to be pretty easy. Rumors and old ways have a hard time dying.

milt, i've noticed the same thing.

on another note, i called up a guy here in LA for an SC he had for sale. the whole conversation was really weird.

he had an ad up on craigslist, with no number given. i emailed him. about 5 minutes after i sent the email, i got a call from a "restricted number."

i answered it, and sure enough, it was the fellow with the porsche. he immediately asked "hi...somebody with this number emailed me about my 'porsch' for sale?" (he spoked extremely slowly...brutally slow.)

that was kind of annoying, due to the fact that i intentionally gave my name and phone number in the email. he should have asked for 'mike".....not "somebody."

I proceeded to start asking some questions about the car, during which he rudely interupts me. he asks me whether or not i am prepared to buy the car if i like it. i explain that yes, im a serious buyer, that i've owned many porsches in the past, etc.

he mentioned the car had lots of mechanical work done to it, but couldn't answer any of my questions. he said he would find out for me, and give me a call back.

no call back, and the ad has been removed.

i wouldn't buy the car from the guy after our initial encounter, but this whole incident reminded me of the craigslist flake thread a couple of weeks ago.
