I hate to say it, but I think that would ruin Porsche in more ways than one.

I don't understand the rationale for wanting to increase annual sales to this extent. When Porsche was independent, it needed the increased revenue from non-traditional vehicles like the Cayenne in order to survive but now that it's part of the VW group, it doesn't need to.
This is the perfect time to end production of it's non sports-car models and focus on the cars that made Porsche great to begin with. IMHO, a decrease in sales would benefit the brand by restoring resale values and prestige to the brand which in the long run would secure Porsche's future. Why every car maker needs to be everything to everyone is beyond me! Especially since VW has TONS of bread-and-butter models already. Why buy a revered brand name and then dilute it with badge-engineered vehicles that fall outside of its main focus? I hate to see the Porsche brand dumbed down to WalMart status...

A 2-door Panamera? WTF is a 911 then?
Oh, I get it, a front V8 for a 911 with enhanced rear seats. Sounds like someone is confused. Or trying way too hard. |

This is what happens when you lose your independence.
Porsche is just a cash cow for VW now, and they are going to milk the badge for everything. |

And, sorry, but as I predicted many years ago, this all started with the Cayenne. That was the beginning of the end. Porsche had survived for 50 years as the maker of the world's finest sportscars, practical exotics. It owned that niche and could have survived in it, as it did for half a century. It's change in philosophy, to try to increase sales at any cost, and ultimately to try to become a huge maker (by ultimately trying to acquire VW), was it's downfall.
So, all the "Cayenne is great, as long as it allows Porsche to remain independent and continue building the 911" people, this is where it ends. |

Reading that only solidifies my lack of desire for a new Porsche.

Too bad they wont really return to their roots with a stripped down, light weight, inexpensive sports car that can be driven to work every day and to the track on the weekends. Must not be enough profit in it...

If Porsche plans to increase annual sales on such a scale, then I am hoping profits will go into expanding motorsports participation. There are rumors of involvement in F1, ALMS P1, 918 in GT, WRC. I grew up watching Porsche win races and I want it to continue!

Porsche has taken on responsibility within the VW Group for developing the Mimo--namely, the midengine entry-level roadster... [they] will develop the Cayman-Boxster line as the basis for other future sports cars. |

I sent them an email saying they should do a 2100 pound car with a 130 hp aircooled flat-six motor, low-back houndstooth seats, green gauges and a wooden strip on the dash.

I can't wait for the Excellence articles 10 years from now.
"Which is better, the new Porsche sub-compact or the 3rd generation Toyota Yaris." Exciting times ahead. |

If you don't think a small light wt. sports car is exciting, you need to visit Lotus Land.
try out a Bug-eye Sprite also. |

A caterham is on my to-do list. Nothing coming out from Porsche as of late seems appealing.

Some say what killed Packard was their changing from a well respected luxury brand (exclusivity) to introducing cars that everyman could afford. I have always maintained that God and Ferry Porsche rested in 1974.
