I also have a Sentry fire safe for storing a couple of quickly assessable handspoons. It's about 1.5' x 1.5' x 2'. I forget what the fire rating is, but it's probably at least 30 mins.

The farm supply store here has it on sale for $129 now and then $50 off regular price. Considering a pistol cabinet from Stock-on is $60, $129 for a fire safe ain't bad.

Sentry makes a variety of small safes and the quality is good enough.

Tim,

I'm looking for a "compact" unit because I don't have that many utensils and I want it to fit in an odd corner space. Some of the small Stack-on unit would be fine except they have no fireproofing. Anything would be better than nothing.

But these days I prefer to buy the thing that is going to last. I like the idea of building a vault, but I don't have enough stuff to worry about that. Next house will have a concrete vault.

James,

It looks like we are the market for the same thing here. For what I have, I too am not looking to take up much space right now and I am not interested in any long guns for my collection. So a small safe with fire protection would be great for me. :)

10 years ago I bought a $750 59x26x18 Amsec. It has a fire rating of 45 minutes.

I thought that it would be all that I would ever need. My "collection" was 1 hand gun, 1 rifle, 1 shotgun.

Well the Wife but some papers in it, we put some home movies in it:D ( The kids growing up)

She put some vintage family photos and birth certificates.

I put some ammo in it.

She put some jewlery in it.

I bought some optics in it

she put some negatives in it

I bought a few more rifles

She fit some keys in it and some credit cards that we don't use.

BUY a bigger safe.

Next thing is all of us a car guys. we know whst it takes to bend, cut and deform steel. the cheap safes are a snap to get into.
