Question opinions on "Sons of Guns"?

Since shooters seem to be well represented here, I'm asking...

I find the show very entertaining (hey - a 80+ yr old CMH (!) recipient firing his old flame thrower!!), but is that what a custom gun shop really looks like?

I know there's machining equipment & operations that are proprietary, but they make it look like there is only one old mill, some fixtures, and hand tools in the shop.

I'm no gunsmith (I do shoot - .45 ACP & 12 ga) but know something about precision milling & turning.

Opinions?

I've watched 4-5 of the shows so far. The show is more about the "drama" than the guns. It's just American Chopper with guns, including the artificial deadlines and the overbearing, @$$hole boss.

I really wanted to like the shop owner, but he comes across as a jerk. Anytime any newbie shooters show up at his business, he is condescending and pretty much tells them that guns aren't for them.

Agreed - it is a bit formulaic.

Another thing: Why doesn't his daughter have anything close to the same accent?

The guy scares me with how... into ... guns he is, especially with the truck. But he daughter makes it worth watching. Especially when she is firing the guns!

Gota agree with Legion. I tried watching it a couple of times & couldn't make it all the way through the program. I won't be trying again.

I've watched about four episodes and the feigned drama is pretty obvious. I kind of agree with the shop owner that a lot of what he makes is not something I'd want to bother dealing with a noob over. I mean, someone with no gun experience is going to expect things to work like in the movies, where suppressors really make a supersonic rifle round quiet. Ha. And a lot of that NFA stuff is a good 4-6 mos. worth of paperwork and waiting. Who wants to bet a large sale on all that stuff working out for someone who doesn't know what a form 4 is? The one I saw today had a local sheriff wanting Red Jacket to convert a Tommy gun into some modern, full auto ninja rifle he could equip his whole SWAT team with. Yeah, right. That was a tough sell.

I agree that Legion is spot on with his description of the show.

like Legion sezz.. "American Chopper" with guns...

too much drama....

I still watch it though.. > the most recent one > conversion of the Thompson to full auto.. scares me.. like what in the he11 does a swat team need with THAT much firepower??? I mean - what's next?? >> swat team needs it's own AH-64 gunship or a Bradley???

I'm just not buying that there is a "requirement" for that much firepower against "bad guys"

That shop is about 20 miles from me. Long before any show, they specialized in AK style weapons, suppressors and select fire weapons. Not newbie,my house got robbed, need a gun type's.They send people in that category to other other fine shops in the area, just edited out of show. Vince, the bald guy with goatee, is a fine gunsmith, he did a few things to an AR of mine when @ another store. They are more dealer direct sales, and smithing. The daughter probably sounds" jus' like hu' maamma".Shows not good, but they do good work.

Well Said.
That shop is a specialty shop. almost everything in there is class 3 stuff. Things that new gun owners have no business having. That is why they send the new gun people and scared moms to other shops.
If you walk in that door you already know what you are looking for.
I like Will....I didn't at first but..... hell he is a retired marine..come on..you have to respect that even if like him or not. He's ok in my book.
I'd like to see the shop and meet him. They're o.k. give them a chance.

I like the show. I think the owner seems to be a "down-to-earth" kind of guys. The daughter knows what she is talking about as well. Good entertainment for me.

Why do all the reality shows where something is being built have to have short / impossible deadlines. If I was buying a gun, car, house, cupcake, or whatever I don't want it to be built in the shortest amount of time possible I want it built right.

I cannot imagine taking delivery on something only to watch them throw it together when the episode aired. All new shows follow the same stupid formula.

That said I will leave it on in the background if I am doing something else.

Agreed... but I do watch the show... the girl is nice eye-candy... and they work on some cool gun.

But like most of TV they take what could have been a cool show and added a healthy dose of ca-ca.

In one show they were out shooting a MA Deuce with Tracers that started a fire...gimme a break...they are a good reason for Gun Control Laws...a little to wild west for my tastes.
