Against what I have always done

In the market for a new truck. Have looked at the new Dodge and the new GM (Chevy and GMC). In the process, I am also looking at used, year or 2 old. I have NEVER bought a new vehicle due to the depreciation. But used isn't much cheaper than what they are selling new for. Example. Chevrolet 4 door 1/2 ton brand new $26500.00, at the same dealer on the used lot, a 2008, with 30K miles, exact same equipment $23900.00. On new truck better financing so its possible to have a lower note on new. But buying new just goes against what I know to be true. Any other conventional wisdom out there on this issue.
As a note I looked at the new Dodge truck and used..same issue.

It was $2500 cheaper for my wife to order her Mini new from the dealer than to buy the used same model on the lot that had 4k miles on it.

I just bought a 2010 Model left over F250. List was $56K. Sold for $42K. Add to that the business tax write off and it was a deal I couldn't pass up. Used F250s with 30-50k miles on them were going for $39-39K.

After the tax savings, the Diesel 2010 F250 Lariat CrewCab was cheaper than a gasoline 2011 F150 Lariat Crewcab.

Use kbb.com to look at new car inventory. I found five 2010 F250 Diesel Crewcabs within 200 miles of Houston.

The dodge has a issue on their trucks of the top of the dash cracking and falling down into the back of the dash.

My 2002 Silverado has 180,005 miles on it. so far the parking brake release cable has failed. the front emblem fell off, the tailgate bezel has fallen off, and the fuel pump failed.

It still has the original brake rotors ( Pads changed at 175k )

I hit the governor on the first day of owning it. I'm a traveling salerep. the first 100,000 miles was done in 2 years 3 months. I figure that the starter has been used 8-10 times a day! ( Still OE ! )

I've towed around 25k miles with it. I used to Kart race twice a month it was going up the Cajon Grade or the Grapevine. towing.

It's first and only time that it's been at the dealer for service was at 100k.

I've done oil every 3k other than that I've abused the snot out of it!

I bought a new Ford F150 about 10 months ago, and I absolutely love it. I bought it new because I plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off. I have not had any problems with it.

With the new engine lines, they are even better this year.

I ordered mine through a buying service- had it built exactly like I wanted it, and got a fair price--below invoice.

Anyway- the Fords are worth looking at also.

You can't compare used at the dealer with new. In fact, the profit margin on used is far better for used. Find someone who is about to turn in a lease or is behind on payments and has to unload.

Wait a couple of months from today when $5.00 gas starts hitting home!

I was seriously looking at big SUVs or a Truck in 2008, with the last fuel price crisis.
