Why was this 993 given a salvage title? Any Portlanders know this car?
Just doesn't look like it needs more than a front bumper cover.

Might have something to do with the bits hanging out of the left front wheel well....
|
There could be some wicked under carriage damage thats not visible. Imagine him goofing around in a parking lot, and going over a couple parking blocks going like 40mph.
|
The site said front end and undercarriage....
|
I'm thinking 'off road excursion'.
You might want to ask in the PNW section. Someone might be able to go take a look at it for you. |

That's not gonna be a good deal if it goes much above current bid.

The hood looks good, I wonder how the driver's door gap is. Underneath can be fixed, but some shops go ape about suspension pick up points. I guess that's how they make money and the owner was buying into that.
The insurance company's response? OK dude, it's totaled. It's all in how the game is played. The owner could have found a cheaper repair and saved himself the aggravation, IMHO. I drive a salvaged truck because I wasn't going the let the bastards take away a perfectly good truck for what amounted to about 4K in damage. |
Most shops will not fix things any more. So if there is a dent in the floor pan, and a dent in the rocker panel, they want to put half a floor pan and a whole rocker panel on it. It's quite unfortunate, because nice cars get written off for really chicken$hit damage.

Considering the obvious tow ring...I'd say an "off track" incident is the reason. Probably the front air dam and undercarrige damage in excess of "x" dollars would put it into a "totalled" catagory

It's not worth $15K

Being a C4 can mean more than sheet metal on the bottom of that beast, sad..:(

It's a 95k mile engine in a car that's been sitting in the rain with a salvage title. In perfect condition with clean title it's a $30-35k car at best. It has unknown damage, which, best case scenario, will cost a few G's to make right. Deduct whatever percentage salvage titles cost on Porsches and you're right about break even at $15k if there's no issue with the AWD. Parts for these cars are not cheap, as they are not interchangeable with any other models and were only imported for one or two yrs. in the US (C4 non-S only). I could part that car out for $20k if I had the time and space to do it. It'd be a killer parts car. But C4 non-S's are not the most desirable of the 993 generation.

If the engine/trans is intact and OK, this one might be worth watching:
