And try to get them to pay reasonably when you need them without a major fight ......

I got hit by a hit and run driver and still had to go to court to get a dime out of progressive.

PORSCHE
There is no substitute
That ad line really did it for me in the 80's when I could only dream of owning a 911.

When the Mazda5 came out we received an ad in the mail offering a $20 Blockbuster gift car to take a test drive. Ha! Free movies for driving a car? Cool! Well, I went for my test drive and found the car was a perfect fit for our family. I bought one a week later.

One TV spot sticks in my mind. I think it was for Mercedes. Guy's in the doctor's office and the doc says something like, "You've got 30... 40 years max left to live," in a morbid voice. Guy leaves looking depressed. Next scene he's driving a new car having fun.

Has anyone seen the Snickers Peanut Butter commercial with the shark focus group?

Yea, definitely had to try them after seeing that riot.

Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce.....

GH85Carrera 03-14-2011 05:22 AM

The commercials that make me think I want that or I will try that are for new tools.

One of those paid tv programs came on selling Classic 70s hits in a boxed set of CDs. I guess I got on the phone and ordered a set. The next morning when I woke up, I go "hey, I think I might have ordered some CDs. I wonder if they're good?"

They'll never get a penny of my money.

+1111 on that, who pays for those commercials - the people who buy the product, is there colusion between the big insurers to keep the price at a certain level?

Like most Americans, I have a house full of stuff, lots of it pretty expensive. Most of what we buy new is influenced by Marketing; everything from the brand of cookies in the cupboard to the flat screen on the wall to the car in the driveway. It's all part of the magic of consumerism.

GH85Carrera 03-14-2011 01:17 PM

You have cookies?

Did I hear cookies?

herr_oberst 03-14-2011 01:39 PM

Newman's Own Mint Chocolate creme filled.

Exactly. Most advertising, stupid or otherwise, works on a subliminal level. Why else would you first walk into a McDonalds, In-n-Out or KFC or buy Crest over Pepsodent toothpaste, Bud over Michelob or vice versa? Why are Nike shoes so much cooler than Adidas?

They even got folks to inhale smoldering leaves wrapped in paper, pay $5 for 20 of them and then get cancer despite warnings from health pros.
