Advertizing, has it ever got you?

Has advertizing that you've seen or heard ever got you, I mean grabbed your attention and made you want that product.
I was working in Northern Quebec years ago and had a copy of Road and Track and there was an ad for the Jim Russell Driving School, it said "If not now, when?" I called on the spot and signed/paid for the 5 day course at Mont Tremblant.
Anything like that ever happen to any of you?

I've seen advertising th fat was catchy and imprinted on my brain, but I don't know that advertising has ever made me want a product that I didn't already want.

Joeaksa 03-13-2011 01:34 PM

Yep, sure has. The frigging Geico commercials made sure that I will NEVER use their product...

"Progressive" insults your intelligence- & Flo is annoying as hell. Also Progressive is run by a frekin Lib campaign sponsor

sammyg2 03-13-2011 01:43 PM

I don't recall any advertising that made me want to buy a product or service, but I can recall many that made me swear I'd never buy it.

kinda like those asshats who knock on my door trying to sell me crap. It wouldn't matter if they were giving away handfuls of cash, I'd still say "get the heck out of here!"

If progressive and geico can afford to run those stoopid commercials every 10 minutes on what seems like every channel, doesn't that mean they must be charging a heck of a lot of money to cover their advertising budget?

They'll never get a penny of my money.

Whenever you single out a commercial and talk about it, it's got to you.

After the gestapo made us all get insurance they have so much money its falling out there crap hole.
The more they spend annoying us with there stupid commercials the more they save in paying tax's.
The more they spend annoying us with there stupid commercials the more they save on tax's so they can hire adjuster's to try to screw us out of a fair price for our classic car ,or how much they will pay for the hospital and doctor bills.

Insurance companies are owned by rich people. They run the world. Get used to it.

Racerbvd 03-13-2011 04:47 PM

Every time I see these, I must buy....

first time i saw the TV ad...with the background in black and white...with an in color red and ivory Yamaha Royal Star motorcycle. went the next day to the local dealership and bought the first one in the area. it had a five year unlimited mileage warranty..really heavy bike but very enjoyable to ride.

MOST insurance companies are publicly traded, hence owned by whoever buys their stocks, and that is mostly mutual funds.
Sorry to burst your fantasy bubble, but most insurance companies are owned by regular folks with a 401K. Reality can be a real beotch.
State farm is the exception, they are privately owned.
Iffn you want to select a specific insurance company we can take a close look at the majority stock holders .......................

That maybe but they are cheaper than anyone else by far. Perhaps the fact its run by a liberal explains why the Progressive people are so well mannered and attentive in the phone ?

You believe that gimmicky tripe about "shopping the competition" (ya, ok I trust them- NOT) for you and "pick your price"(less coverage = lower premium- wow, what a concept!)

That's what I mean about insulting your intelligence.

PS they are NOT "cheaper than anyone else"- I shopped them against my existing policy for kicks (Farmers) and they got destroyed. Just like they got destroyed when I just updated my policies and the broker I'm working with sent their quotes over.

geico and progressive are NOT cheaper than other cut-rate insurers. General knowledge.

And try to get them to pay reasonably when you need them without a major fight ......

The first time my son saw a Hooters commercial, he turned and said,

"MOM!!! I WANT HOT WINGS!!! MUST HAVE!!!!! GAAHHHAHAA!!!!"

Boys...

There's also a couple of very intereresting adult lubrication products that make me go "Hmmm...Do you suppose it really does all that? I think I'll head down to the local Walgreens..." ;)

I fell asleep at the beach house in front of the tv.

One of those paid tv programs came on selling Classic 70s hits in a boxed set of CDs. I guess I got on the phone and ordered a set. The next morning when I woke up, I go "hey, I think I might have ordered some CDs. I wonder if they're good?"
