Tips on how to raise a daughter that isn't crazy

Have a two year old daughter and another one on the way anytime (gender unknown). She's already having fits when I don't put the right clothes on her help!

They turn into teenagers you know... When that hits, you will become the stupidest male on the planet. You will get smarter when she's older, well past her teens.

Jon,

Just get used to the idea even a 2 year old female has more fashion awareness than most males.

You're doomed.

Gentle but firm. Patience is important too. But the most important element is love. Particularly at that age. They need love more than they need guidance. Soon, she will start to need guidance.

You won't be NEARLY as stupid as her mom, though. She'd continue to recognize your position as "Dad." Her respect for mom though......will take a nosedive.

Learn to pick your battles. Give her options on what she can choose from. With my daughter, as long as what she wanted to wear was appropriate for outside temperatures and we weren't going somewhere that was "dress up" I just let her choose. Unlike my wife, the way my daughter would dress sometimes didn't embarrass me.

Be firm but fair. My daughter is 23 now. I remember when I was about to change her diaper, she said Mummy do it, and when my wife started changing the diaper, she said Daddy do it. Manipulation can start early. Whoever starts changing the diaper, carry on and finish doing it whatever the child says. One of the most challenging things to teach your child is to drive a car. A few prof. lessions may help. Her and her boyfriend both drive auto trans. cars. I tried to teach my daughter to drive the manual trans. Boxster. My daughter and I had the most laughs ever for about half an hour. There are some precious moments ahead for you but u will have some challenges.

It's like dogs with worms. they're born with the crazy.

The best thing that you can do is to take them hiking and other activities with them. Spend time with them and for God's sake DO NOT GIVE THEM A "Princess Complex"

I was in a bar once and there was a young woman there with a "Yield for the Princess" T shirt on.

I told her "I'll yield to the princess but she must kneel before the KING!"

All that I can say is that she cried.

Everything above said in jest.

It's called the Terrible Twos.

Relax, she will be quite a different girl by the time she is three. Maybe issuing instructions as you drive the car or are shopping at the supermarket haha.

This is a good start.

Although my wife has learned to deal with it as long as the clothes are not on backwards or inside out or both.

I went rom Mr. Wonderful to the dumbest SOB in the world when my daughter's boobs started growing. She is now 32 years old and I *think* the DSOB spot is now open (but WTF do I know). Step right up, dads.

Get her involved, even now, with something you like - maybe the p-car.

Let her watch you - don't make everything 'do not touch', let her put her fingers in the oil as it is draining out of the car, turn on the wipers, whatever... give her something that she does with Dad.

And never stop doing that something special she does with Dad.

There will be really difficult times, but the times she spends doing that 'Dad' thing - that will always be there. I used to think my parents were idiots at times during my life - but, then me and my Dad would work on something - often I didn't want to, but he made me. And it was good, we connected again over something I had been doing with him since I was just a tiny girl. We would talk, and for an afternoon, my Dad was cool. Soon, weeks would go by, and Dad was still cool.

And I didn't worry about how I was dressed when I worked on the cars with my Dad

kids are largely a crap shoot...especially girls. Make an animal sacrifice and hope for your next and any that follow are boys.

Only do this if you live outside the state of California, I hear contact with used motor oil is know to cause cancer there.

Don't be afraid to tell her "no" is my advice.

My daughter is 5.75 and can be challenge some days but she is as sweet as the day is long.

She has become my car stuff buddy and would probably follow me off the edge of the earth.

I figure I'm only going to be her hero for a few more years so I try hard to live up to the title but I do not givve in to her every whim.

My son on the other hand...........................yikes.

The key really is mom. If mom is well grounded the daughter will be. Most daughters I know are little perfect copies of their moms.

I also recommend staying away from ballet classes and beauty pageants. No TV (get rid of it!) and focus on sports that are physical, like swimming, soccer and other ball sports. Pick their friends (while you can) accordingly. Later you also want to emphasize that the life plan is a college degree in a solid discipline that will feed a family and that we aren't going to rely on a guy paying the bills ...
