Orange Cars Have A Surprising Secret...
Started reading 'Big Data' - great book. Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think [Hardcover]
Viktor Mayer-Schonberger and Kenneth Cukier. They talk about how companies are processing tons of data in real time - finding out all sorts of stuff. They mention that along with info on flu spread and buying trends, orange cars are the most reliable. They don't say why just that they breakdown the leact in comparison to all other colors. My Dad owned an orange Honda Civic - the first year they came out. It never broke down. Now, was it good because it was orange or because it was a Honda or both? hmmmm Quote:

Weird stuff. Looking back to the Can-Am years, the dominance in 1969 by McLaren orange cars could validate your 'Big data' book. Most would argue, the factory team was exceptionally prepared and the cars were reliable. But then again, in all the years of Can-Am, the majority of the start field were McLaren cars, many DNF's too with blown motors and other failures.

Well considering hardly anyone get's an Orange car, it would be obvious that there are few Orange cars around that can break down...

Orange cars are more reliable because they are low mile cars. They are too ugly to drive.

The quickly points out that its all correlation - no cause - effect. Just raw data, take it anyway that gets you through the night.

In the 60's, tobacco companies argued (effectively), that so much of the population smoked, the correlation with cancer was no different than it was with people who sat in chairs each day.

My orange '74 is a very reliable track car, and I think it's OK looking.

I have a cool book, written in the 50's - 'Lying With Statistics'. This is why an education in math is very important.

I think our orange car is adorable... but, it's probably as reliable as any other car. Who sits around coming up with this crap?
