photo shop help?

considering a tribute theme to the old 917 23 car shown below.




here is a very well done cayman recently posted in a thread in the race/ax section.



i am doing this in the more time than money laboratories so i am considering vinyl for the horizonal stripe work. for the lamp area i am considering whiting out just the headlamp covers and taking the horizonal stripes off from that. looking to see if this will work in terms being enough like the 917 or should just wait it out and pony up for paint at some point.

can i get just the head lamp covers whited and a mimic of the stripe work from above.?

thats pretty cool mike! the gray you used is actually the interior color pert~near.. that would be impossible in vinyl. my plan was to spray just the head lamp covers with a sturdy paint in white. then i was going to cut strip vinyl down with a strait edge attempting to blend it at the lamp bucket. in the spirit of the factory car it would need the soft circular lines you have recreated off the front edge to form the horizontals.. not so much into doing as much on the fenders as you show until this gets serious enough to tow it to the paint shop.. thats not really in the spirt of more time than money laboratories

so maybe a "tribute" is an overstatement in that its more a bad attempt at a copy... actually, if i was only somewhat familiar with the old factory racer might i not pick up a poorly attempted tribute..

shelf paper mock up.... i feel like trekkor!

care to make a mockery of my mock up? using shelf paper and with what ive learned think i can make vinyl work with some butted seams.







trying to figure a way to finish the material around the painted head lamp buckets. the factory car has squarish edges on the leading edge. anyone?
thing is i am liking it to consider the paint & $$$ involved there.
