Just got a Notice of Intent to Suspend

...my registration on my '88 Carrera. Yep, the ins co did not send POI to the DMV when it came up for renewal. Why? Because I sold the car 2 months ago and turned in the Notice of Non Responsibility (owner change) that day. I cancelled my insurance a week later. The car is in Germany.

Now we know the DMV is so backed up that you can't get a driver's license for 6 weeks and the current ones are automatically extended for 90 days if you re-apply. So I guess we can expect they will spend quite a bit of time and money trying to dun me for a car I no longer own.

Not to mention my time telling them I no longer own it and they have the record of that....

somewhere.

CA haters, you do have a point when it comes to our gubmit.

It takes a lot more then 6 weeks. I just got my new license in the mail, and I sent in the renewal 2.5 months ago. About a month after I sent in the renewal I got an extension. More money wasted.

Gotta love Government. Government knows best. Always.

I drove my pickup to Costa Rica, I never renewed the registration here, DMV sent me a note and I sent them the paper work of it going through the borders to Costa Rica. It took a year before they gave up, I told them once if they can find it they can have it. It never came back here.

Don't rent from U haul. Somewhere around here, there is a novella about my experience with them.

Milt the only thing wrong with this place is the govt. Hope you kept a copy of the paperwork.

I find it odd that the DMV doesn't check, double-check or verify their records. But once it gets to the CA Franchise Tax Board and you provide proof of non-ownership... it gets fixed a bit quicker. Funny... Fast to take payments, slow to process or verify records... Even faster to send bills and notices with intent to ... whatever.

They are too busy licensing illegals!

on2wheels52 04-09-2011 02:43 PM

So what is the downside for them suspending a vehicle you no longer own?
Jim

Alright then, for Tobra.

NV & AZ are setting up Booths at the border to collect a highway tax to drive a U haul or other type of moving out of CA truck through the state. State Budget crisis solved...

Also after all the Foreclosed homes are sold in NV anyway they are closing the state to Californians...we don't want U here either...Calis wiil ruin a perfectly good state...

It's in Germany. No tax will be collected on that car.

So in CA you cant even get a driver's license unless you have a POI? How screwed up is that!!

Not unless you are an illegal alien. Not even kidding.

eastbay 04-09-2011 04:07 PM

Just do a voluntary registration suspension on the car, that will fox them. All you have to do is call the phone number at the DMV and follow the prompts. It would definitely be funny.

There's no cost to you when/if they suspend your registration. Happened to me last Fall when my insurance company failed to send the POI. When you have your insurance company correct their oversight, then CA wants $14 for *their* trouble.

Its the behavior of bureaucracies in general. I'm getting dunning notices for a deposit and reconnection fee for electrical service that was removed in August 2010. I even had them come and take the meter out, and they STILL insist I owe them a reconnection fee. The problem is big organizations with untrained people doing jobs they aren't qualified for.

A few years ago I started getting threatening letters from the city of Smell-A saying I had a whole bunch of parking tickets and they were gonna issue a warrant for my arrest if I didn't pay them.
This is an excerpt of one of two certified letters I sent them:
Quote:

We, ****** * **** and ****** ****, declare that the title and ownership of a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder, license number CA2ZSL698, was legally and completely transferred to Gateway Chevrolet, 15000 Firestone blvd. La Mirada, Ca. 90638 on or about December 10th, 1994.
The vehicle in question was “traded in” on a 1995 model year Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck.
Gateway Chevrolet has confirmed this fact and the TSR shows that the vehicle is currently registered to a different party.
Due to legal restrictions Gateway Chevrolet has refused our request for a copy of that TSR.

The supervisor of the San Pedro Department of Motor Vehicles performed a registration search for the above mentioned vehicle and confirmed it was not registered to us, but again denied our request for documentation due to privacy laws.

We do not accept nor deserve any responsibility whatsoever for the operation or care of this vehicle from the time it was traded in to the present.
After the second letter they backed off.
But ...... when it came time to re-register our current vehicles, the game began all over again.

The DMV knew that pathfinder hasn't belonged to me in 15 years. Their own computer conformed that fact.
But since the city of Lowlife Angeles had processed paperwork against us, the DMV refused to renew our registration.

I tried everything I could think of to straighten it out short of hiring a liar ... uh I mean lawyer,
until I happened to mention it to my state legislative representative at a dinner party.
Bam, problem solved!

Brando 04-10-2011 10:08 AM

I see why the illegals just don't register their cars. It's so much easier! And now the Popo won't even town them... Bi-Winning!
