the topsoil company i visited is next to the animal shelter.

i took my wife to get a quote for garden mix. i kid you not, i am leaving the yard to head to buddies to get the trailer, and my wife said, "let's pull in here and check out HARRY".

"who's Harry?" i had no idea, my wife has been lurking at the shelter's website and had set her sights on a dog.

two hours later, i'm driving myself, wife, and a new dog to my friend's to pick up the trailer. first question out of cantdrv55's mouth was; "you have a dog?" hahahh. i was thinking to myself, that i really need to learn to tell my wife "no".

the shelter said he was a night dropped dog. minimal med history. owner gave him up after 10 years of ownership (he will be 11 in november!). they wanted us to do a complete med checkup to find any underlying issues. he drinks alot, and his belly is mildly puffed out. the shelter is worried the owner dropped him off because they found out he was sick and couldnt foot the vet bills. we were appreciative they were so forthcoming. they dont have the funds to do the bloodwork, so we did it. results come to us later this evening. vet is looking for cushing's, diabetes, and pancreatitis.

he is a good dog, and i hope it works out. some mild separation anxiety, but he is very responsive to positive reinforcement. we make little fanfare of leaving and coming..he is responding. he almost killed himself attacking my running chainsaw. for an older dog, he was very very "peppy". made a mental note for garden tools. here he is..a cairn terrier. TOTO-dog. which was wierd, because my TOTO toilet and sink was delivered the very same day.

As a very laconic, prior Marine friend of mine has been heard to say when looking at dogs like Harry:

"That's not a dog, that's a cat..."

I don't share his view, however

Congrats- nice of you to adopt him as he obviously needs you. We adopted an older animal and while the vet bills have been significant, he is great.

Are you going to move to Kansas soon? Good job! So many dogs & cats, too few homes.

Not a good idea. She might learn to tell you "no."
Cut dog, and lucky too. I hope he has no medical problems and has a long happy life with you. No matter how long it is, I have a feeling you'll make it happy.

I thought this was going to be a post about the pound turning euthanized animals into top soil, or something.

That is a cute dog. My opinion of smaller dogs is changing as I get older (and more gheyer). And getting a Toto dog and Toto commode the same week is weirder than weird. Whoa, dude.

I have two small dogs, both rescues.

A rescued dog is always grateful, and they make great friends. Git em, Harry!

I've had dogs almost all my life and most were either found or rescued.
I love mutts.

I wish I could just go the pound and get all the dogs in a great big pen and just play with them all day. Nothing happier than a pound dog getting a visit and attention.

Good going Vash! I too am a sucker for pound dogs. If it makes you feel any better about his health I drink a lot and my belly is mildly, actually, highly puffed out!
