do you think there is a skinny little man with a metabolisim of a hummingbird trapped for days at a time in a fold?

sammyg2 04-21-2011 06:46 PM

Quick, give her a double-cheeseburger and a donut so we can watch her explode!

mossguy 04-21-2011 07:43 PM

Sammy - Do you really want to see that??

M.D. Holloway 04-21-2011 07:50 PM

Gogar 04-21-2011 07:56 PM

Interesting question Tom. The video seems to evoke three kinds of responses:

1. Pity for the fat lady because she's obese
2. Laughter at the fat lady because she's obese
3. Laughter at the the food because it's so absurdly unhealthy

1. is humane
2. is inhumane
3. is logical

I can't help but draw a comparison between how this thread is starting out and how Jeff Higgins' thread started out.

Jeff's thread ultimately took a turn from being just another gay bashing festival to one that became pretty much a Boxter bashing festival, neither humane nor inhumane and, while not necessarily logical, entertaining and sometimes humorous.

This seemed to me to come about when push came to shove and basic human decency and compassion surfaced and squelched the mean spirited humor which we all seem to so easily fall prey to.

In the course of that thread I experienced a newfound respect for a number of posters for whom I previously had little or none. In the end, I personally feel that what started out as an obnoxious and bigoted joke fest with gays as the target, turned out to be an enlightening and worthwhile thread, not only for me but for a number of others as well.

I'd sure like to see this thread turn out that way, because the same considerations are at play in this thread as in Jeff's, the only difference being that one started out bashing gays and this one started out bashing the obese.

I'm betting that that will happen, while at the same time realizing that there will always be the few intransigent personality types who would enjoy watching the fat lady's head explode.

I think one person can see the video and experience all three reactions.

You may have missed a few like disgust and disbelief.

It is pretty sad. Make you want to slap her and say "WTF".

I think it's possible to laugh at unfortunate situations while feeling pity or sadness about those situations.

+1. Ya know, one could consume virtually the whole bowl, leaving just "a few bites", and it would qualify as a "reduced fat, lower calorie" diet plan for some....

mikesride 04-22-2011 06:04 AM

+ 1 on the pound of bacon!!!! Tee Hee Hee! I'll have mine with a DIET COKE!!!!!!!

[QUOTE=mikesride;5978277... I'll have mine with a DIET COKE!!!!!!![/QUOTE]

Brings back memories of a manager I had long ago. Big guy (400+ lbs) would exit the morning "break line" with literally a platter (easily a dozen +) doughnuts with his Diet Coke...

mikesride 04-22-2011 06:10 AM

Ok felt a little guilty posting that but I couldn't stop giggling (I'm a bad bad man) But really....is there no one in this womans life around who cares enough to point out the frickin obvious?

lyon 04-22-2011 06:10 AM

disgusting

porsche4life 04-22-2011 06:14 AM

For some reason comments are turned off on her Vids... I was looking forward to hours of fun.....

widgeon13 04-22-2011 06:28 AM

For some stupid reason, I just watched the video again. Don't know how old she is or what her weight is but just listening to her breath (respiration) is scary. Her respiration rate which one can clearly hear, is about 36 resp per minute.

My guess would be that she will be dead before she is forty, very sad situation.

You missed the fourth response-

4. Yum, what a delicious recipe, I can't wait to try it.

M.D. Holloway 04-22-2011 07:51 AM

Thats what I'm saying! I would try a few spoonfuls. I'm sure it would be a hit at any midwestern small town potluck picnic! Put a big ol bowl right next to the jello salad and the pasta and corn salad...

I agree. Humor is interesting and complex.

Who's first impulse isn't to laugh when they see someone slip on a banana peel and go down? And who's second impulse isn't to then immediately feel a pang of compassion and concern for the victim? We humans are interesting and complex.

Way back when, I happened onto a quote by Horace Walpole which struck a chord. It always comes to mind when I'm conflicted by mixed emotions. It came to mind when I opened the video, started to laugh, at the same time feeling pity for that poor woman:

"This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel."

Helps me keep my balance on this tightrope lest I plummet into the abyss, laughing hysterically or sobbing uncontrollably. :D (that's an evil grin :D)

Funny Nazi sign painter; love the 'K's :D

Wonder if he went to the same 'School for Sign Painters and Wallpaper Hangers' that Hitler did. :D
