As a daily driver, it meets and exceeds every single criteria needed:
-Headroom, passenger, and lugggage space for a family of four.
-Acceptable fuel milage when driven reasonably.
-Decent passing power and handling(no, it is not an Ariel Atom, sorry).
-Reliablity? Think back to your 80' GM.

The hybrid drive is only a means to an end.
It can be geared towards power(like the 918), or millage(like the Insight).

In the end it's only a car.

I was given a Prius as a company car. I drove it for the day, then politely asked for my Chevy Colbalt back... Fawkin hated it

With all the rage about it being a Hybrid, the mileage it gets isnt much better than my 944.

I would rather spend my money on camera gear and Porsche parts than a car payment on a penis. These are my priorities but I am single and don’t have any kids.

I'm single with grown up kids so I understand what you're saying.

5 or 10 years down the track cars like these may be a lot more attractive. The new Tesla sedan certainly looks promising.
They way I see it is that I'll drive a car like this everyday when needed but I'll still have my 911 for fun drives on the week end.

So in a way new technology like this has saved the classic sports car.

Vinny, your 944 can get 50-60 mpg? That's one special 944.

gtc 04-25-2011 08:26 AM

I don't know how much it costs to get your balls cut off, but I bet it's a lot cheaper than whatever a new Prius costs.

jyl 04-25-2011 08:42 AM

Because you want airbags, abs, esc, satbav, comfort, and new car reliability?

I got a question. if milage is your reason for buying, why not an early 90s CVIC wagon.

jyl 04-25-2011 08:44 AM

So it is better to get your balls cut off at $4 each gallon. The guys wailing about fill up costs don't sound like they are enjoying that so much.

Manhood seems to be a very fragile thing for some.

Den, a Prius isnt that good in the mileage dept. If thats the case, I'll take and old VW Rabbit diesel over a Prius in a heartbreat!

I listed my prioritys in my post. Those were not one of them. Iactually prefer cars without abs and esc. I dont care what you drive I just dont want a payment on a prius. thats all.

LSA 04-25-2011 09:33 AM

The Prius looks wise has gone from boring to uglier and uglier with each generation. We had a 2000 diesel golf that averaged ~45mpg good to see the prius is finally getting something close to a 10 year old beater....

Would rather listen to Paul rip on 944's all day than drive a prius.

BeyGon 04-25-2011 09:39 AM

I would rather buy a Kia Rio and get 35mpg, throw it away in ten years and it only cost me 10 to 12k for the car new.

The highway miles shouldn't be where the Prius shines. The low drag and small body help on the highway, but I doubt the hybrid tech is worth anything. The weight of the hybrid tech may actually hurt at highway speeds.

The city is where it looks so attractive. I'd get one if I needed a car. Unfortunately, I need a pickup.

True - unless the hwy has a lot of hills.

If these are my only two choices, I'll take the Prius.

That's fine, Paul.

But you should be HAPPY that other people buy them, and buy other low fuel consumption cars. You should be super happy that other people take mass transit (Amtrak).

The reason is that allows more gas for you to burn up. And for the latter case, it keeps people off the hwy and out of your way.

john70t 04-25-2011 10:44 AM

And so, Randy, your comment brings this fundamental argument full-circle....

Let us pretend that this philosophy rings true. Everyone listened to the anti-Prius-type crowd, and so the roads are clogged with gas-sucking monster trucks with 1950's emissions.

Not one single "degenerate"-type person would be on a bus, or a train, or biking, or walking. They'd all be driving large vehicles and sitting in traffic. On the roads. On the streets, and on the highways.
Sitting. Idling. Breathing in the fresh air.

Then, the principle law of supply-and-demand would be set in stone.

"Why are gasoline prices so high?" they would ask.

They would never understand why.

Someone else is to blame.

Like I posted on another thread...let gas get to $10. Maybe then traffic will thin enough to allow me to really enjoy having a V-8.

I think few Prius are bought to save fuel..more to project an "Image", just like other cars. Is it true that Obama stickers are applied to Prius cars at the dealerships?

mikester 04-25-2011 10:50 AM

It's too bad I just can't take a train down to Irvine and then catch a connecting bus down to my office. Or; northbound - catch a train to Thousand Oaks and then a bus to that particular office.

They should be spending money on TRAINS that go up and down the 405 and along the 101 a decent distance instead of spending them on Carpool lanes.

The only prius cars I ever seem to notice are the ones doing 61 mph in the fast lane, where rational people usually do 75.

I'm sure there are prius drivers out there who drive normally but they must live somewhere else.

I understand the big car/small penis syndrome but shiite, get the f out of the way.

Furthermore, drive your 944 or kia or whatever it is that you want to drive. I am all for it...whatever it may be, finances, smell, MPG...whatever, Just get the phock out of the way if I come up on you!

I pass people on the right all the time on the freeway with my VW Vanagon, doesn't seem to bother them. I wonder what they are thinking, in the fast lanes and a Vanagon has to pass them on the right. Then I realize, they aren't thinking.
