You're doing it wrong: Prius Kill Stories
This is an old thread, but still hilarious:
Hybrid Racing stories - PriusChat Forums Obviously, since the OP's Prius whooped a Mustang, our next order of business here should be to organize a drag race between a Prius and a well set up 944. (Apologies if this is a repost - I did a quick search and didn't see it posted here yet) |
I read those dork stories, I am sure lots of people are racing me too, I just don't know it. It's like owning a Harley, you can only race other Harleys. Prius as a race car, eeyuch.
|
Highly amusing...but now I know where the earlier Prius thread got started...I agree...Race a Prius? Uh, wouldn't have a clue it's driver was trying to. No wonder they can claim so many "kills"...
Actually I hear they are killing...pedestrians. So quiet people in crosswalks don't hear them. |
I have been commuting between Carlsbad and Las Vegas (twice a week) for the last 5 years and average about 60,000 miles per year. I can definitively state that the most agressive drivers, bar none, I encounter are driving prius'. Usually a flyby at around 90 mph as they weave in and out of traffic enveloped in their own personal cocoon of smug...
|
Does the prius have balls off the line with the torque from its electric motors? I imagine not but I dont know. I know my friend who had a classic VW bus claimed he could take horse named 'sports cars' off the line in first up to 5mph or so because of the super low gearing of the bus's first gear.
|
my bug was pretty quick off the line, not much after first gear though...
|
In the late '70's and early '80's I had a pretty darn quick, dedicated, purpose built drag car - a '69 Dodge Super Bee. It was an honest to gosh, solid mid ten second car. A buddy had a Baja Bug with a big bore, stroker type one motor. The thing was pretty light, with all fiberglass panels outside the main "greenhouse". There wasn't a damn thing I could do to stay with him through the first two gears. That thing was the stoplight to stoplight king, bar none.
A Prius, though? I'm sure the slot car motor has instant torque, so it probably launches well, at least the way most folks would drive a car. Maybe that makes them feel fast. I guess I'll have to pay more attention to those guys from now on; I used to think that hunkered down, strainied, serious demeanor came from being all constipated with their own self rightousness. Now that I realize it might stem from some sort of delusions of "racing" me, I might see it in a whole new light. |
I'm quite confident my 928 could beat a prius in a quarter mile run while i was towing another prius behind me.
|
Prius owners should try racing people who are actually racing them while driving to their spelling classes that they should stop avoiding while smuging in their smug mobiles.

If you look at the car forums which have kill story forums or threads, you will find the one or more of the following:
1. Their cars have motors with less displacement than your typical bottle of soda. 2. The drivers of said cars never lived before the days of the internet, the cell phone, and the flat-screen TV. 3. The HP numbers of their cars are even lower than their IQ's. 4. They 'race' to compensate for a certain 'appendage' that is smaller than average. 5. Because of #4, they don't have the balls to take it to a proper dragrace/racetrack/AX/club race venue. -Z-man. |
From the top of page 2:
the prius tops out at 108... yeah.. i know.. it does 107 easy.. does 108 easy.. and you still get 15mpg... but that's it.. you can't go faster than 108.. trust me.. i tried when racing an M3 down a highway.. all downhill.. only reason he beat me ( i had low profiles on the car) is because he tops around 150. hahahaha, the only reason the m3 beat the prius is because...it's faster I also like the first poster who thinks he took a crotch rocket. sure buddy. |
Not completely beyond belief

From a real prius site:
Toyota says 10.1 for the 0-60. Could not find anything in Road and Track for the standing quarter but here is Car and Driver: ACCELERATION Seconds Zero to 30 mph 3.4 40 mph 5.6 50 mph 8.2 60 mph 11.3 70 mph 15.3 80 mph 20.5 90 mph 27.6 100 mph 39.6 Street start, 5–60 mph 11.3 Top-gear acceleration, 30–50 mph 5.5 50–70 mph 7.9 Standing 1/4-mile 18.3 sec @ 76 mph Top speed (governor limited) 104 mph |

I'm surprised how many of those Prius drivers noticed anything outside of their cocoon of smug. I've found they're usually the least situationally-aware/-considerate vehicles on the road.
