I live in an old city firehouse that has commercial steel entry doors (1 man door and one auto garage door) and no windows at ground level. The exterior walls are of cinder block construction.
Aint no zombies getting in here. |

Sadly the previous occupant took the pole out.

A zombie proof house is like having a unicorn proof house. My house is 100% safe from Bigfoot and zombies. My Daschund will protect me from them. She has done a great job of keeping the Lions, Tigers and Bears out of my yard. Not one aligator has made it past her.

Actually, a zombie proof house= a very highly resistant to thieves and home invaders house.
So it is quite a useful thing to have. "Zombie proof" or being prepared for "the zombie apocalypse" just refers to being ready for various SHTF scenarios. Nothing more. |

It is resistant to normal thieves. Since I don't do drugs or gamble the home invaders don't come around much. There are no large sums of cash in the wall safe behind the picture like in all the movies. Heck there is no wall safe at all. I keep my money at the credit union.

sentient home invaders climb walls. sentient home invaders are devious. sentient home invaders set up a plan.
zombies do not. that's why it's easier to protect against zombies. a home invader doesn't need to see inside of your house to assess potential value. simple driveby on sunny saturday afternoon will give him some idea. neighborhood, cars in driveway, outside decor. they'll still break in..only to trash thru all your underwear to find nothing of real value there, take your laptop and your tv and your blender. no one's really safe. u either accept it and leave your doors semi open, or live in a bunker. 99% of residential locks are pickable in under 10seconds. 99% of residential doors/frames can be just kicked in. |

My exterior entry ways are protected by heavy duty commercial steel doors/locks with manual sliding bolt locks that cannot be picked because they have no key mechanism.
The real weakness of my place is my second story windows. Even if they were barred up, a lot of thieves would just break in through the roof. |

We have reasonable security. It is not a bunker. I don't want to live in a bunker. We park our cars inside the garage. No one can tell if we are home or not unless we are expecting company. We do have a burglar alarm that is monitored and it has a loud and annoying siren. If someone comes in unexpected they best expect to be shot, and likely killed. I expect the odds of a home invasion are just above that of a zombie attack, or that pesky pack of wolves.

Just like winning the lottery, it could happen. My odds would go up a just a tiny amount if I bought a lottery ticket.
If I start hanging out with drug dealers, meth heads or other criminals my chances would go up.

There are home invasions that are drug or robbery motivated, and there are those that are rape or murder motivated.
The serial killer that was recently tried in Connecticut, who preyed on well to do suburban white families was not there to rob them. He was there to destroy entire families, and he did....many times. And rapists....well sadly, they grow on trees. ![]() The monsters are out there, they are not a fairy tale. |

No doubt about that. I do understand some simple statistics. There are some things I can expect to happen. There are things I don't expect to happen. I don't expect to be kidnapped by the Swedish Bikini Team either. It could happen!

There are some places in the country where being zombie-prepared is more important than in other places, philly comes to mind as one.
Besides, even if they get in I still gots my 12 ga. anti-zombie stick. |
