I actually posted the specs for the 302 boss on that page- odd that she doesn't even know how much HP her car has.

It's 440 porsche gal, and a 12.7 in the quarter mile.

And she was comparing an extensively lightened and modified 930 to the bone stock Boss....

Just curious...

To do apples to apples... how does a comparably priced Corvette stand up to a Mustang?

Well, let's talk about modding a bit...the thread I lifted this from had all complaining of a "slick" drag course. But here's a modded Bullitt that's semi quick in the quarter...on street tires yet. Yeah, there's a roush blower under that hood scoop. A guy in his 60's who doesn't drag race as a weekend thing behind the wheel. Put on some drag slicks, and I'm sure times would improve.

All nice cars.
From the description of hers, it sounds like it's completely stripped, to include the interior, and doesn't even have a passenger seat. Also sounded like it had some engine mods from her description.

Hardly a fair comparison....

She never actually raced them, which i would like to see.

My 28 year old Porsche is over 2 seconds quicker in the quarter mile than it was when stock too.
Hardly a fair comparison, to compare it to a factory stock vehicle with sound deadening, A/C, etc, etc, etc.

The funny thing is, the brand new Boss 302 cost less money today, in 2011 dollars, than my car cost in 1983 dollars (my 928S had a $47,000 sticker in 1983!)

TC beat me to it but I was going to say and comparing a brand new sports car to one 25 years it's senior is?

That being said I think it's pretty cool that ford is offering near Zr1 level of performance for half the price.

Reworded, how does a comparatively priced Mustang stand up to a Corvette?, performance wise, I don't think it does.

But I don't see the comparison as apples to apples; I see the Corvette as a purpose-built sports car with daily driver amenities and the Mustang as a purpose built daily driver with sports car amenities.

To my mind, my way of seeing it doesn't denigrate either of these two high performance and very cool cars.

A ZR1 does 204mph.

Let's not kid ourselves, shall we?

My 28 year old 928S has run a 13.67 quarter mile (2.33 seconds faster than stock!), and if i sold it, i'd probably sell it for $5-6k. What does that say for todays new cars? If anything, maybe we should compare the original MSRP of her 930- and my 928 ($47,000 in my case), to the mustang. Might be a bit more educational.

But honestly, this is apples to oranges, completely.

Everyone knows an old tuner will wipe the floor with many new cars that cost far more money.

And i'd point out again: She never actually raced them.

Well I did mean the Laguna Seca version but that's why I said "near" that level of performance and the 928 is a badass car! Have to agree with the apples to oranges. Everyone knows we should just go back to comparing mustangs and 944s

Comparitively priced is the hard part...Mustangs sell for quite a bit less than Corvettes, so you'd need to muddy the waters by comparing used Corvette and new Mustang.

It wasn't me who made the first post comparing the two...
