DNA ID quicker now?

I thought DNA ID's took some time to make the match. Is there now a "field kit" for on the spot ID's of bad guys? I guess if you have a sample you are specifically trying to match to it can be much faster.

Anyone know?

Would be interesting to know what sample they were matching against, too.

some time ago, the FBI executed a search warrant and took his dead sister's brain into custody

no doubt the DNA match was obtained that way

it should be faster to match these if using sibs

DNA "stuff" seems to advance about every week - I know that even "little guy scientists" could buy DNA analysis robots 10 years ago, so no idea what the FBI & etc. can do nowadays

It used to take weeks to extract and process DNA.
Obviously things have moved on and our local cops can get results back within hours of taking a sample.

BTW: It can be faked in the lab... Which means you can manufacture DNA to match any sample.

Why would they had got rid of the body so quick? Sounds kinda fishy to me.

That's what I thought as well but they may have done this to put this to bed so to speak as quickly as possible.
Also... It's Islamic tradition to bury the body as soon as possible after death.

A burial at sea means there is no grave and almost no possibility of the body ever begin recovered.

Personally I don't fully understand why this has been done but they are follow a plan that has been approved by the President.

The body was dumped because under islam you are supposed to bury the body within 24 hours. If we had kept it then I'm sure the middle east would be all up in arms over it. Now who is to say a bag of potatoes didn't go overboard......

I bet Obama is waiting for Trump to jump on the "deather bandwagon". After much stupidity ensues, he'll produce a long form death certificate (w/ raised seal) along with Osama's head on a platter...oops, did I just go PARFY???

Yes, having worked in biotech and currently working in R&D in a medical testing device company, these results can be obtained very quickly now. They probably had already sequenced the sister's DNA so the only thing left to do was sequence his once they had him.

The whole process can be performed in a matter of hours. The tools used today make things a lot easier and faster. I'm sure the Navy has portable labs with all the equipment they need.
