Anyone think Porsche sucks!

Check out the next car to attempt to fill the 911's shoes

www.tvr.co.uk

This model competes on price with the Boxster in the UK.
The four seat (well 2+2) launches later this year at 996 prices. It will be called the TUSCAN R.

This company still believe in the Targa

Interior - notice all the handmade components. Even Aston Martin raid the Ford parts bin

I've always admired TVR for their low weight, good performance and wonderful engine sound.

Still I don't like the way they look. It's not that they're ugly, but they are not good looking either. The interiors are certainly not my taste either.

Build quality and reliability is not very good I understand.

As ever beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I know what you mean about the interior, but how many people ever complement you on the interior of your 3.2 Carrera? Maybe sports car owners need to take pride in their pervers ineriors. At least TVR design their own instead of robbing a corporate parts bin (see Aston Martin or Jaguar XK8 for FORD buttons and lights)

I raised this same point in the 911 technical board, when discussions arise about the future direction of porsche. TVR are one of the few carmakers who only make sports cars. And one of even fewer who actually race their own product.

At the moment the build quality is right up there, see a recent issue of EVO, where the TVR Tamora blew axay the boxster, Morgan Aero8 and Jensen CV8. The journos grudgingly gave overall prize to the boxster, on "solidity" and every day practicality. TVR was only a slight margin behind though. On every other test the TVR was a clear winner.

Lets see if the TVR matches Porsche for reliablity in this years JD Power car survey. The water cooled porsches seem to have had a few product recalls, blown engines and the like.....

The point is that If I were buying a (£40,000) sports car today, it would be a TVR. The "standard model" new porsches have strayed too far towards GT's. The only hope for this generation of Porsche is to stick the 3.6 in the boxster which will kill off the 996 cabrio - so that will probably never happen.

Realistically though in 5 years will you yearn for an 8 year old 996 model the way we all dream about getting a 964RS now?
I don't think so, the 996 is designed for a different prosche owner, one who is not such an enthusiast, and not as dedicated to racing/track driving.

In five years I will be able to afford a TVR Tuscan - and boy will I be happy.

Wow what a rant....

Um, Britain is fortunate to have a lot of small, specialty car manufacturers that make some phenomenal sports cars -- light, agile, powerful...

But that thing is butt-ugly. It might be a great performer, but you'd need to put a body kit on it, or something. Eek.

But to each his own. My personal preference would be toward something lighter and simpler, like the Noble M12 GT0, a 300-hp, 1000kg car:

I agree that the 996 is too much 928.

Still I would not go for a TVR as Porsche substitute. I'd rather have a BMW M3 then. Or if I could afford it modify a 996 to look and sound more aircooled. It can be done - IF you have the money.

Actually most of those who bother to comment on my Carrera 3.2 are impressed by the interior. Those 5 round instruments have some kind of exotic wow-aura that intimidates people. Heck they even make me feel important when I sit behind them

I agree on the parts sharing being bad for exotic cars. Still look at Ferrari. They've been using Fiat parts in many of their cars.

Jack

Saw one of these at Le Mans, they do look good and go well.

Fair enough the Tuscan is radical in the looks department, however the TVR is pretty light and simple - 1100kg 390BHP normally aspirated engine, no ABS or traction control. It does have power steering though.
And the chassis has been raced and crashed for years.

How simple is the Ford duratec V6 with twin turbos grafted on?

The TVR is certainly more of an enthusiast's choice today than Porsche, especially in the UK if you compare prices. TVR reliability has apparently improved, but you still have that whippy fibreglass feeling all over the car, the exhaust is still so low it scrapes everywhere but is at least cheap. The other big positive is TVR's, (for that read boss, Peter Wheeler), attitude to the world. Much more positve than every other companies bowing their heads to nanny legislation and political correctness.

You have hit the nail squarely on the head.

TVR have a competitive edge over every othe mainstream car maker.
Peter Wheeler.
One guy (six foot four so we can all fit in even wearing a helmet!) decides how the car should drive and ride.

No accountant, no styling commitee, no compromise. That's it.

He does listen to feedback though, well up to a point.
The original Tuscan was criticised for being "too soft" at the back (bottomed out oover big bumps), and steering "too fast" for the road. So they offered a "red rose" hadling package with 18" wheels and MORE power- now called the Tuscan S in essence.

You have to live with the steering though.

Who do Porsche listen to, after the shareholders.
Lets see, cupholders, aircon that works, endless audio options, wonderful interiors wheels and colours BUT no RS model.

Let's check those lottery numbers again. Where is Blackpool?

Maybe we should all save up for (or wait for depreciation )the Tuscan R.

"The chassis is all new with stressed aluminium honeycomb panels along the same lines as those in the Cerbera Speed 12."
quote from TVR http://www.tvr.co.uk/graphics/tuscanr/frames/tusr_fra_3.html

This car sounds pretty rigid. See how it copes in GT racing this season.

But then I wouldn't have enough money for a Porsche four door, four wheel drive Delivery Van.
