Beware of Google Image searches

I noticed this a couple of times over the last few days. Clicking a link on an image that comes up in a Google image search redirect to a site that attempts to download a fake anti-virus to your PC. It actually happened to me today while I was looking for a picture of Aimee Driver. Luckily, I don't run Windows.

More on Google image poisoning

I hate the whole image pop up thing to begin with.

Adds too much unnecessary navigation/user input.

Whoever thought it was a good idea should be fired.

My wife has run into that too. She was searching for a chemical symbol when she happened across the bad link.

The original image search was far superior. Way too much overhead for the new version

Happened to me a few weeks ago on Google Images. Said I had all kinds of viruses (virae ??) in several files. I just clicked the X button & logged off the internet.

Happens very often....
On occasion () when I look for cute chicks to post for my fellow forum members, it does that.
I just close the tab. and scan regularly.

With safe search turned off Google images gives you PORN in just about any search.
The whole internet thing and PORN is just completely ridiculous.

Fake anti-virus scams are usually harmless if you have an update anti virus software on your PC or laptop.
Don't be tempted to click the close button on the fake warning. Just close the tab or page.

"Ctrl, W" closes a tab in Mozilla. Also if you want to open a new tab from a link on a page hold down the "Ctrl" key as you click the link.

Alt + F4 will close the current IE page. Safer since the fake virus alerts reprogram the close buttons

Ctrl W seems to work in Chrome as well. Marv, never hit the X button on those pop ups.

(*sigh*) My wife fell for one of the fake antivirus scams on her work system yesterday... Glad it's her IT dept that gets to clean it up and not me.

Milt, I hit the red X button in the upper right of my screen to log me off the internet. I hope that one can't be affected to download a virus. It only happened to me once, but I think I'll do the Alt+F4 if it happens again.
